Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

During my last GCC call (made to allocate seating on a business flight which I couldn't do on-line during the booking), I asked the lady to see why my 341s don't show at all. After about 20 minutes of trying to access, she finally had to admit her computer wouldn't allow her access. Great system VA or is it VR.....I get confused as to which system is the bigger problem.

50% off the total fare including taxes for both guests is exactly the way it has always worked so there is no change there.

OK, my mistake. all discounted by 50% which is not what they were doing for a time (when they took a fare and added the 2nd pax taxes). So that's good, please ignore. So a new booking fee? Hopefully not.

On phone to them now... hasnt been a pleasant experience thus far.

My Velocity is not showing any info about 2 For 1's remaining etc - nor does it display the current promo code to be used - so that was a bit of a drama.

Got that sorted and then was quoted $190 as being "half of the $105 (per person - $210 for 2) fare" - when that was queried the CSS went back to her supervisor *again* and came back and said oh I apologise - it is actually $123....

I figured that was inclusive of the CC fee etc and was sick of being on the phone at this point so agreed to go ahead... only to be told "ok, great, once CC fees are added that make it $140" !!!!!!

Still on hold after querying that one...

All booked... not overly happy, BUT at least I am off the phone!

Ended up paying ~$131 for my 2 x $105 fares........

Mystery amount of $123 for the fares themselves and then 1 x CC surcharge... (which in itself is B**S**T as you HAVE to use the card to pay for the 2FOR1's....)

Was told that her supervisor gave ok to only charge 1 x CC surcharge as a one time only thing....

I mean - I am happy that I got 2 fares for what equates to about $65 each - BUT -

* why the need for the process to be so hard?!?
* how did she get the random $190 figure?
* why was it 'oops sorry' its actually a figure much lower?
* Why is a $105 fare (as it was explained to me by the CSS) - quote "$150 with fees and charges, so half of that is $75 and then with fees/charges that equals $123" ?!?!

BTW - total time on phone was about 35 mins...

Maybe, but the T&Cs are pretty clear that the credit card fee is payable, and given it is a feature of the credit card, it seems reasonable to require it be paid on the credit card.

Here's my guess. Only a guess as I don't know where your going from and to and what bucket your fare was in.

But...I see $105 Saver Lite fares from BNE-MEL - the fare basis is SZDAS. From what I've seen before the S on the end of the fare basis indicates a Sale fare so this fare would in fact not be eligible for the 2 for 1. The agent would then need to find you the first available non sale fare. I tried to check KVS but the list of fare basis is huge now and difficult for me to identify what the next available fare would be.

You should be able to check your fare basis by looking at the fare rules in manage my booking - I'm fairly sure it'll show something other than SZDAS.

You can use vouchers as well, which I'm assuming includes travel bank (or whatever they call it).

I'm having fun trying to book 2 for 1 atm.

Price on VA site MEL-PER flexi $399 each way. Total cost inc. CC fee ends up at $446.71 each, so by deduction, the flights cost $439.01 (an extra $40 each).

Everything ok up until I want to use the balance of a gift voucher plus cc. After 36 minutes, she asked if she could call me back when she can find someone to get it to process properly.

Do you forfeit any un-redeemed 2-4-1 you have left over when your new year kicks in?

Yes, so I would recommend booking a Flexi 2 for 1 before your year expires, even if you have no travel booked. You can then change the dates as necessary.

I assume you'd get hit up for a substantial fare difference if you did that?

So you booked for $200pp ($400/2) and the flight you change to is quoted at $400pp...fare difference of $400?

I was not.... they just looked for a flight with the same fare class. (I was changing a 2-for-1 Flexi, but not in this scenario .. although the end result should be the same).

VA have since January certainly been waiving a lot of fees / fare differences for changes but changes to Flexi certainly have the potential to result in a fare difference.

Hi everyone,
i have revived the thread to ask if anyone has an older saved copy of the virgin credit card two for one terms and conditions.
The Website version was updated on may 10 2013
Virginmoney .com. au/downloads/credit-cards/Buy_one_seat_get_one_free_Terms_and_Conditions.pdf
( as I have less than 10 posts I can't publish links )

In particular, I was interested about the point regarding the taxes at point 10, wondering if it has changed.
and I wondered if the meaning of point 10 is still that you should only pay one lot of taxes when redeeming a two for one.

10. The offer is valid for two Guests only and both guests must be booked and travelling together. The offer willprovide a 50% discount on each Guest’s fare price (which includes taxes payable for both guests) as at the date ofbooking.

The expertise of people on the forum would be appreciated.
thanks.

Yes, of course, that is the meaning. I don't think this point actually changed.

I think the wording changed, but not the effect.

The issue quite a few of us had for a while, was that VA started to work out the 241 on the fare and then added both taxes in full, meaning it was not a true 241 offer. All the T&Cs now do, is to clarify that the taxes are 241 as well. We should now see the only discrepancy as being the difference between the lowest 241 fare bucket and the web price (which may or may not be lower again depending on the fare buckets still available).

Apologies if this has already been addressed but has anyone had any success in booking 241's on Business class sale fares.

Even though the T&C's do exclude sale fares, they never seem to have a problem booking economy sale fares.

They have in the past had plenty of problems booking economy class sale fares...I'm sure this thread is probably full of examples.

They may currently be letting economy class sale fares through because I noticed the fare class seems to have changed (no longer U) whereas I bet their manual hasn't been updated and still says U not allowed.

Business class sale fares still book into I (on the not allowed list) though so I would expect them to be denied.

Thanks. I managed to successfully book a two for one fare while paying only one lot of taxes and charges today.
the customer service representative initially wanted to charge me two lots of taxes and charges, but thanks to you all on the forum I confidently pointed out that the terms and conditions say that only one lot of taxes are payable. She put me on hold to speak to someone and said yes, that was correct and apologised for the mistake. Given the difference was about $125 (syd-per return) I was very glad to have the right outcome on this transaction.

Cheers everyone.:)
