Virgin Flyer 2-For-1 - Significant negative changes from Dec 1

I just checked my account and found the whole option in my benefits gone! I hadn't used all my flights and I still have the card. Anyone else found this?

I also received a survey last week asking about my thoughts on the 2 - for - 1 offer and had suggested changes such as if it would include all fare classes etc. So They may be planning some changes?

As I've been telling people for 18 months, the balance is irrelevant unless they tell you you can't book the flights ;)

It's actually quite normal...well normal is probably not the right word, normal for VA IT!

If your My Account page is quite 'busy' it seems to time out trying to bring back all the info...if it times out the Virgin credit card section seems to drop off. Hasn't happened to me for a while but sometimes several page refreshes were required to get it to display.

Mine have not displayed at all since Sabre (I believe)!

But who cares.......when I've rung up, they tell me I have three hundred thousand left (well 4 anyway), which always cost about the same or more than just buying the fares........did you use the term "benefit" by the way? I have an old dictionary for sale if you so require!

Do you have to pay for the 2-4-1 offer with the Virgin Flyer Credit Card or can you pay with any card?

The T&Cs said you can pay with a VA gift voucher, but in my experience, you need to put some of it through the Virgin flyer card (I did $1). Still get smacked with the credit card surcharge though.

I called up yesterday and they won't let me get a 2-4-1 on the virgin flyer card on their sale fares wtf? It works out more exp then buying on the website....

That's been the case for a very long time now.

I was pretty sure that it wasn't the case last time I booked but oh well the card is uselsss.

I still get value out of it, especially seeing as every time I check the number of flights available seems to have gone back to 4 regardless of how many I've actually used!

The booking of Sale fares disappeared with the Sabre implementation...so nearly 2 years ago.

It's a good 1:1 earning Visa card, especially when matched with a higher earning Amex (and only used where Amex is not accepted or there is a surcharge). Yes the 2-4-1 offer was gutted a year ago and is no longer nearly as valuable as it once was but its still good for when you have to buy non-sale fares anyway. And yes, I've also found that the 2-4-1 balance never seems to hit 0!

I use my Citibank Sig for non amex spend and I alternate between Amex Plat Red/Edge for Amex spend.... The virgin flyer is capped at 1500 points per month if I recall

Yes! Especially when booking flights during those pesky school holiday periods. We still get benefit from our Virgin Flyer card despite spending almost nothing on it ($1=1pt on the Citibank Signature and don't need to keep track of when you hit that 1500 point monthly ceiling when they turn to $1=0.5pt).

I thought they'd changed to only charge a surcharge in amounts over $50.

That's what I heard, but the call centre told me that it would still be charged (managed to get it waived after a bit of complaining about how the T&Cs were rubbish and didn't say I had to use the card). This was about 9 months ago though.

It was definitely not charged with my last award purchase online keeping the cash payment below $50.

The $50 cutoff was also mentioned when I booked an award on the phone yesterday, so at least the call centre people should know about the cut off. Didn't have to pay anyway because that award originated outside Australia.

Soooooo we all know its easy to get your annual fee waived by simply calling up and threatening to cancel the card but a little birdy has just told me you may be able to get some SCs from threatening to cancel too - has anyone heard or done this?!
