Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

Significant negative change to this card from 1 December:

- no longer covers taxes for 2nd pax
- now saver lite and saver fares only - eliminating flexi to business upgrades.
- 30 days advance purchase, up from 21 days

updated t&c http://virginmoney.com.au/downloads/credit-cards/Buy_one_seat_get_one_free_Terms_and_Conditions.pdf

Its not clear whether this applies to bookings made before 1 December for travel post 1 December.

Awful! This deserves a thread of its own I think!

OK... I have always used this for buying two-4-one business class seats, so this will almost be useless now...

Not happy VA!

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

Totally useless for me from 1st December. I use it only for buying flexi and business fares

And I don't recall getting anything from Virgin Money in relation to the changes.

i'll second that.

Will be cancelling my card as this is the only reason I had it. Otherwise, I am sure I can find a better value card with better customer service.

maybe if we all cancel at the same time on 1st dec it will make the point ;)

I was going to use my 4 sectors for a couple of mel-per flexis that i could then upgrade with points. Should i just book them before dec 1st and then change the date of the flight later on when i actually work out when i will be going?

We received no advice either

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

It is quite a devaluation of the offer. Taxes change and only saver/saver lite. I don't understand why they keep changing the T & C's. It is not improving loyalty to a specific program. Hence people always shop around to find a better deal. Giving points for "pets" on one side and taking away something that was really worth it on the other side - doesn't make sense to me.
I am disappointed too (I just got approved for the Virgin High Flyer). Too bad.

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

I agree it's a huge devaluation. I won't be keeping this card unless they change this - luckily my annual fee is due in November.
I've only ever booked Flexi and the occasional Business fare (when there was a small price difference between Flexi and Business) using this offer. The new 30 day advance purchase makes it almost impossible for me to use these fares as the change fees would probably outweigh the half price fare.

The 30 day thing just seems to be an attempt to add insult to injury!

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

One small point the card always had an advance purchase requirement. It might have been 21 days previously, I can't exactly remember.

Yes it was 21 days (and still is, until 30 Nov 2013).

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

Hmmph. Well that sucks. None the less, I checked what that means to me if I just used it on my most common routes, and less the CC annual fee (just got the flyer) that amounts to a saving of about $250 per year at least(assuming I use all 4 which is likely) which is better than a stab in the foot I guess. Don't factor in the point earn as my home loan came with the NAB Velocity cards.

Having said that, still pretty bloody annoyed. I travel to DRW and PER on the odd occasion and using this card was the only reason I got Flexi on my own dime. It's a good thing I'm not platinum, those comp upgrades would rarely get looked at I suspect (unless my work is feeling generous). I wonder how this will affect J loads.

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

So after getting me hooked on using 2FOR1 for flexi and then upgrading to Business class they now take away the raison d'etre. Oh well come December they can have their card back.

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

Has anybody been notified about this change? I realise it taks effect from 1 Dec, but when did the above T&C actually get released?

Seems odd (not suprising though) that this hasn't been publicized to existing card holders.

I also will be ditching the card - only used it for J tickets so saver and saver light are of no interest to me whatsoever.

It may possibly be sent out with the next batch of statements, though my most recent one I got last week had nothing about it

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

I used it purely for Flexi fares which I then upgrade.

Not much use now as you can't book the special's. Factor in the annual fee, and the value is becoming less and less.

Still can't believe they have an earning cap on their own credit card! $1500 a month before earning drops is very poor.

The 'High Flyer' has uncapped points earning.

Who do you mean by 'they'? These cards are issued by Citigroup using the Virgin Money brand licensed from Richard Branson - they have nothing to do with Velocity or Virgin Australia.

Yesterday, 1 July - see bottom of the PDF.

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

Add another disappointment vote here - very poor from Citigroup, though really... should we have expected any different?

Guess this card will be going in the bin after Dec 1st here as well unless Virgin Money come to their senses and undo the blacklisting of Flexi and Business fares.
