This seems to have been around for about 18months, but I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned before:
Virgin Blue Redundancy Policy

What is it?

Virgin Blue’s Redundancy Refund Promise is a policy that aims to make life a little easier for Guests who lose their job. Subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the Policy, we will cancel your booking and refund the cost of your ticket if you suffer involuntary redundancy.
Am I eligible?

To be eligible for a refund you must –

Be a traveller on a reservation/itinerary with Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue or V Australia.
Have been made involuntarily redundant from your full time role after 19/6/09.
Be aged 16 years or over.
Make an application for a refund within 30 days of the involuntary redundancy taking effect.
Make an application for a refund at least 14 days before the date of departure.

I remember seeing something about it at the time. I think that was their GFC response- when noone was sure if the economy was going to tank, there was a lull in spending on things like Virgin flights because everyone was scared of losing their jobs. (Well, not me really, people still drive cars into trees and motorbikes into cars regardless of the economy or what country it is!)
Virgin's response was this Redundancy refund. I'm surprised they still have it there, I figured it'd be a short-lived publicity ploy that'd be there 6 months, tops.

I recall hearing something about it, at the height of gfc panic I guess
