I fly regularly between ADL and MLB. Since 02/08/2010 Virgin Blue's web check in does not work. The seat allocation page that usually shows the seat layout and lets you pick a free seat comes up blank; no seat layout, nothing. And because you can not pick a seat, you can not finish the check in.

I tried doing this using 5 different operating system/browser combination - they all do the same thing. I rung Virgin's customer service, all they say is that I just have to check in at the airport.

It is quite inconvenient because the line at the check in desk is usually longer and I always get the coughpiest seat.

Does anyone else have the same problem or it is specific to me?

Just checked in for my flight this afternoon. got the deat selection, but either my flight is 100% full or not working as there were no available seats. printed boarding pass though...

There are some bugs in the OLCI system.

Some bugs on the DJ site seem to be browser/OS specific. Others are not.
I cannot get holiday bookings to complete, nor can I do OLCI using Apple Safari 4.0.5 for Windows, in Win 7 Home Premium. Yet using Firefox in the same OS, OLCI and holiday bookings both work fine.
For some folks, the barcode on OLCI boarding passes is being chopped off.

That is why you do OLCI exactly 24 hours before the scheduled departure time for your flight. Check in too late and there will be very little in the way of decent seats available. Do OLCI at the right time, and you've a better chance of snaring a good seat.

I think they may be having some IT issues in general, today I tried to OLCI for a colleague at work on IE in Windows with no luck, got the same result as the OP.

Just now I've tried to confirm some flight changes at home via an email sent from DJ and the website gives a HTTP Status 500 error using Safari on a Mac.

I'm guessing things still are not quite right with the June long weekend upgrade as I've seen a few other things when booking flights that have stuffed up. I'm sure the IT guys will earn their keep and fix it soon....

I checked in today at 8am.

I use macs, and Virgin check in would not work using Safari, but it did work using Firefox.

Great way to check in as I have NOOOOOOOOO status at all with Virgin and I got a seat right behind "expensive" economy at the front....

I checked in online on Friday for a flight from MEL to Launceston. Got the seat selection without any worries.

Easily getting a very good seat via OLCI using Firefox, is precisely what happened with the BNE DOM - SYD DOM T2 return flights I did back on Jul 29.
I'm a Velocity nothing red, I did the OLCI for them on Jul 28, and I was able to get seat 5F on both flights.

What OS/browser?

Not that I think this would be an issue, but is there any reason you haven’t downloaded Safari 5.0.1, it could fix whatever issue there is with WebKit.

Just waiting to see if any show stopper bugs are reported on, in Apple's own support forum for Safari for Windows.
The fact that regarding Safari, the site seems to have issues that seem to be browser but not OS dependent has me concerned. But the Mac users, so far, have yet to say which version of Safari they are running.
Has anyone tried the site with the other major WebKit browser, Google Chrome?

Just a home laptop that is connected to a printer. Sorry, I am computer illiterate.

OS = Operating System, e.g. Windows XP, Vista, 7? OS X?

Browser = what program do you use to browse the internet? Firefox? Internet Explorer? Chrome? etc.

Could members please post the combinations of browser/operating systems with which they are experiencing problems (some have already in this thread thanks) and I will collate and get them to our IT department.

triffid97 did you also try CheckMate (mobile check-in using iPhone or Blackberry app or mobile site for other devices)? This should at least help you avoid queues at check-in.

cheers

You're more than welcome, CrazyDave.
I first made mention of the issues regarding OLCI and Safari 4.0.5 in Win7, in the first post of my trip report.

Unfortunately, at the time, I did not make a proper note of the HTTP error code, only where and what in the OLCI sequemce things were failing. :(
