Seems to be advertised on virginblue.com.au main page, but I can't see any sale fares.

They exist and are quite subtle.

The appear to be loosely based on a back fill situation.

e.g. Very Heavy Bookings MEL-SYD on 29/30 Sept as all the corporates/fans head betwixt the AFL and NRL grand finals. You'll see plenty SYD-MEL on 30th.

Fare Details Footy Fares
  • The Basics - This is our discount fare. It gives you the best possible price, but it is not as flexible as our more expensive fares. There are restrictions on your ability to change or cancel the fare. The fare is not refundable, but you can obtain a credit for use later.
  • Changes - You can change the date and time of your flight if you make the request at least 24hrs prior to your flight's scheduled departure time. Any other changes (such as name changes or changes to routing) are not permitted, and will be treated as a cancellation. If you made your original booking on our website, you can make changes on our website. If you did not make your original booking on our website, you must contact the Guest Contact Centre (GCC).
  • For Changes you make using our website (see also 'Which Currency', below): Domestic flights - a change fee of $35AUD (Aust domestic) or $35NZD (NZ domestic) per Guest plus any applicable fare difference (see below). International flights - a change fee of $40AUD/$40NZD/$40FJD/$75WST/$65TOP per Guest plus any applicable fare difference (see below).
  • For Changes you make through the GCC (see also 'Which Currency', below): Domestic flights - a change fee of $40AUD (Aust domestic) or $40NZD (NZ domestic) per Guest plus any applicable fare difference (see below). International flights - a change fee of $50AUD/$50NZD/$50FJD/$95WST/$80TOP per Guest plus any applicable fare difference (see below).
  • Fare Difference - Your new fare will be at least the price of the original fare and may be more. You must pay this fare difference when you change your booking. GCC fares are at least $15AUD/$15NZD more than internet fares.
  • Cancellations - You can cancel your flight if you make the request at least 24hrs prior to your flight's scheduled departure time. You can use the same methods as for making changes. See above.
  • For Cancellations you make using our website - a cancellation fee of $40AUD (Aust domestic) or $40NZD (NZ domestic) per Guest for domestic flights or $50AUD/$50NZD/$50FJD/$95WST/$80TOP per Guest for international flights.
  • For Cancellations you make through the GCC - a cancellation fee of $45AUD (Aust domestic) or $45NZD (NZ domestic) per Guest for domestic flights or $60AUD/$60NZD/$60FJD/$105WST/$90TOP per Guest for international flights.
  • Giving credit - Regardless of your initial form of payment (including velocity points), if you cancel your flights in accordance with these rules, any balance will be held in credit for use within 12 months from the date you purchased the flight. All future bookings utilising your credit, can only be made via the GCC and at applicable GCC fare levels. GCC fares are at least $15AUD/$15NZD more than internet fares.
  • No show - If you do not fly and do not notify us at least 24 hours prior to the flight's scheduled departure time, you will forfeit any fare paid and/or your Velocity Points (as applicable).
  • Other important fare rules - This fare is non-refundable, non-transferable and name changes are not permitted. This fare is only applicable origin to destination and no enroute stopovers are permitted.
  • Currency - For international travel, the currency in which you made your original booking will apply any changes or cancellations you make. Please refer to the Fees and Charges tab in the Booking section of our website or your itinerary for applicable charges in that currency.

Actually just marketing hype...again..they have just renamed their basic pricepoints up to certain level as footy fares.

I absolutely hate the name, it seems that they made all their Blue Savers into Footy Fares.

This isn't a new technique from DJ. During the Comm. Games last year all Blue Saver fares were re-named 'Go 4 Gold' fares, along with a lengthy disclaimer (as QF were the airline sponsor).

It's finally happened. I've booked a fare from MEL - CHC on DJ :!:

I had to fit in with friends going to the Warbirds Over Wanake in March. Price was good (& still called a Footy Fare) so we'll see how it all goes.

I might try the AKL- SYD 'J' on LAN for the return.

only take that option is you plan on partying through the night before. Otherwise its a killer departure time.

I have a booking coming up which was booked as a 'Blue Saver'. When I check it today, it says I booked a 'Footy Fare'

Cute DJ, very cute. At least early next week when I check again, I'll be able to see my 'Blue Saver' again :D
