That depends on what your idea of fun is. Looks like BME is on the outer edge of potential gale zone for today - ie same as a fairly normal day in Wellington. The bumps add to the fun.

Some places don't have clouds to obscure the view, so more altitude means more view to view. But in Kiwiland, clouds always come into play when considering the view. Sub-cloudal altitude is essential for viewing NZ scenery, unless we are talking about Mt Cook, in which case you are more likely to view it from above the cloud level than below .

Yeah there have been many times when I have flown and either saw the cloud layer below me or the entire journey in the clouds (ZQN-CHC).
I have flown WLG-AKL about 14 times return and seen Mt Taranaki or Mt Ruapehu 3 times, couple were due to it being night, or aisle seat but the most is the long white cloud.
Of course with the low altitude and mountains there are some routes you just do not want to fly....
Oh WLG has been the most enjoyable airport for me, some people think they are home when they hear the local acent when they step aboard the national carrier, for me it is when we start to do the Welly rollacoaster!

Given a choice of seeing a lot of the outback at once (and realising how many hours it will take to cross the monotonous expanse), and being closer to the ground with clearer view of a more interesting landscape - I know what I'd choose.

Altair - when flying in to WLG on a typical day I sometimes play a game of spot the visitors. The locals take the turbulence in their stride but many visitors go a bit green. Having said that, the last few times I've visited WLG the weather has been brilliant.

I'd have to say WLG is the only place I can ever remember experiencing turbulence sitting at the gate whilst pax were still boarding.

I had two very poor customer service experience with Virgin Blue in a fairly short space of time. I haven't flown with them since, because where there is a choice between QF, JQ and DJ, I's choose QF and JQ (yes even JQ) over DJ as long as the timetable works out.

Had DJ been my preferred carrier, they'd have got at least $15,000 per year out of me.

Agree with your sentiments completely.

How anyone could suggest that DJ could appeal to business flyers is beyond me.

The sooner Tiger gives them some real competion at the low end of the spectrum (which is where they are), the better.

QF have called me for a flight delayed 1hr and i hadn't left home.
I guess QF tend to be better at these things generally (From my expereince)

Qantas just SMS'ed me about my delayed flight! Which I already knew about - I'm sitting in the QP waiting to fly

Missed any potential danger but the flights yesterday and today had limited visibility below due to the constant cloud cover. It felt like I was in NZ again. :shock:

Shame, but at least you missed the winds. Now that the flight is over, I'll share with you the nickname that the KNX people I deal with know TL by - "Scare North".

I don't know too much about Air North but the flight felt quite smooth and I was able to sleep for the second half of the flight.
