So while DJ fares are not LCC, the overall service still is.

It absolutely is.

The hosties are feral (picked for this reason) and the service is cough. They will always be a high-priced LCC in my view with a cough FF program (Velocity).

Good luck to Air NZ for getting into bed with such a cough "airline".

I'm sure we're all completely gutted they instead didn't hook up with your fine specimen of an airline, United

DJ have always classed themselves as a 'New World Carrier' or NWC, not a LCC.

This would mean that AA and the like are moving from "Full Service Carrier" to NWC, based on charging for luggage and food.

The realities are that people are not willing to pay full service prices but still expect the full service. Air travel has become a commodity not a luxury, and it's not going to change quickly.

Admittedly AA 'downgraded' their service (introduced bag charges/food for purchase) and DJ 'upgraded' theirs (added FF program/lounges etc), but they are much of a muchness. AA's seats are still better than DJ's IMHO, and the young crews on DJ can be a little over-exuberant at times, but AA can have old boilers on that look like they're just substituted their Zimmer frames for food/beverage carts (UA even more so!).

My biggest gripe with DJ are the seats. I'm also around 6'4" and not a small guy. The seats are bum-numbingly hard. Even BNE-MEL is the longest i'll really want to spend in DJ's seats. The leg room is great in an exit row (which I seem to have been able to get easily being Velocity Gold) but holy hard seats.

Here's hoping the (hopefully) soon to be announced J seats and other changes in relation to the A330 coming on board will fix this. Just don't reduce the pitch on the 737's. They're already better than QF's in most cases!

really? I'm yet to see a feral FA on a DJ flight. I am also yet to have a DJ FA throw food at me or call me mate, which is something I can't say for qantas.

I am gobsmacked by that comment.

You must travel on a different DJ than the one I travel on :!:

What an astounding statement.

All I can say is you must have had "the flight from hell" to make such a comment.

I have found the service to be quite acceptable and the FA's always try hard.

Lets face it, there's always going to be a segment on this forum that will worship Qantas and despise Virgin Blue, no matter what each of them do.
Virgin Blue could start gold-plating the boarding passes and they'd complain that the dazzle from it hurts their eyes! :p

Soem of those Qantas worshippers were once one-eyed Ansett supporters - so people can change. But DJ has a lot of work to do to woo them over.

And some of the current supporters of DJ were once one-eyed supporters of QF and probably one-eyed Ansett supporters before then.

Their undying support for DJ seems to come from a protest against QF and recent 'enhancements'....

I agree with the comments on their FF program but totally disagree about their FAs.
Flying out of MCY QF is not an option-though I will fly back into BNE to avoid JQ.I like to compliment good staff when I come across them.I have done this once in the last 10 years for QF and once a year for DJ and AA-yes they do have old broilers on Zimmer frames but some really do know their job and execute it brilliantly.
On DJ I like how the FAs often go out of their way to help unaccompanied kids and the very old-both lots behave a lot better because of that attention.
As well I am only 182cm and well padded so their seats are fine by me.
Even though I am a OW points junkie and if QF flew out of MCY I could well pick DJ when their timing was convenient.

I'll politely enquire when was the last time clifford flew on DJ?

I will politely hope that the answer is "not for many years and never will again". Could you imagine how unpleasant it would be for everyone if he ever stepped aboard one of our aircraft and behaved as he does on the Virgin Blue threads on this forum?

His appearances here are only ever to vent and never actually contribute anything positive to the community on the topic of Virgin Blue. He has obviously made up his mind long ago and has stated that nothing we ever do will change his perceptions, so I am certainly not going to waste my time trying. I would like to thank our supporters but suggest they too not give his posts any more attention than they deserve.

cheers
