Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Definitely didn't see this one coming, but with the start date towards the end of the 25/26 financial year, I wonder if Virgin are expecting a small if not moderate fleet growth for 26/27.

Will probably just use one of the two aircraft that would sit idle overnight at CBR, only really costing an afternoon in utilisation.

The route will not operate in Feb or March.

What chief Minister? Who's flying it? Link?

They should do better compared to Batik as they will be able to funnel through a whole bunch of connections.

Batik was only doing around 30-50 people per flight.

I think TSV would have been a better opportunity or even HBA.

But connections from where is the question isn't it? Passengers can already fly direct to Bali on numerous airlines at far less cost from SYD MEL BNE OOL ADL etc - I can't see how anyone would be interested in transiting CBR unless it was for a VA status run given that domestic airfares into and out of CBR from anywhere are often sky-high anyway. This is only going to succeed or fail because of CBR end subsidies and the actual outbound demand ex-CBR itself, which is quite a wealthy city, so its possible.

I agree that they will do better than Batik and that either CNS TSV or even HBA might have been a better option.

Wealthy people fly to Bali? ;)

At least they'll get a lounge on this short-haul route out of CBR!

I expect so - it seems a pretty popular destination for all Australians and particularly families across the board at the moment, due to reasonable cost of accommodation, the relatively lower price of airfares, and how expensive it is to holiday within Australia, and popular especially for places in Australia that have colder winters (as an "escape from winter).

I think if I lived in CBR I would consider flying this (at least on the outbound daytime flight) if I was going to Bali rather than the clust@#%* that is transiting international in BNE or SYD or paying additional $$ to go via MEL, which at least has everything under one roof.

Obviously DPS is pretty well connected internationally, (although International transit is still maybe a bit of a PITA?) so there might be some CBR residents who would treat this as a good way to relocate themselves to DPS for onward reasonable-priced international flights further afield.
