I don't think it will be too popular, not much for me to do there except work, and you do have the risk/benefit of getting the no alcohol fk100 on one sector.

Fares from Virgin should plummet on this route early next year, Tiger have flooded the market with a second daily from Tulla and a new Avalon daily. Plus DJ will also have extra capacity when the E170's go, so I would hang it out.

I know its only 2 days duration, but things can't be too rosy to discount that much so close to travel. They were $65 on Tues for travel even later (something around 17 March from memory).

I thought I saw one upto 17/4 last week. But most likely I was wrong, again. The dates do vary each day and I have very rarely seen some surprising dates pop up.

I piked out again yesterday with DJ happy hour offering $55 SYD-BNE in May. With luggage that would have cost me $67 so I took the $75 special on QF instead.

I did say I was going to fly DJ more when I re-qualified Platinum but changed my mind. :-|

Perhaps about the gouging. Looking at my usual flights it seems that qantas want to gouge me all the time. I entered my recent bookings into iphone today and noticed that one of them was a happy hour (purchased in the last 2 weeks). Thinking about it that might have been when I saw the 17/4 flights. Unfortunately, I needed to fly on 18/4 so didn't pay to much attention, instead getting an amex flight for that week.

It is amazing how much the differences in flying habits affect the flights that we book. I only have carry on so DJ works much better for me, but the difference I see in price is more like $80. Having the free gold allowance also helps, but that also means I've made a commitment that I need to follow.

Yep, we were kind of discussing that aspect. Compared to other airlines the random variability of sale dates with happy hours is interesting, including for school holidays. Of course I've only been watching these sales for the last few months.

School holidays is one of the reasons I try to book my overseas trips at the same time (avoid having to pay extortion money to commute) but Easter was not really convenient this year as it falls very close to Songkran and I avoid that like the plague.
