I'm so confused reading all this. So someone else on the plane can? I'm sure I've seen it reset because it wasn't working early on in the flight.

It is very confusing because seems to be two very different opinions but we do have a VA2 staff member on here saying it’s not working well, so 🤔.

Another weird experience last night.

Was working fine - about 3-4.5 down which was ok enough for me to do my emails (I know some people will think that’s slow).

Then approximately every 15 minutes it cut out completely for about 5 minutes or so, you had to re-log in to get access. Was happening to my seat neighbour as well and I could see others pressing the bell and asking the cabin crew what was going on.

We got the ‘There is nothing we can do sorry, it’s not been very reliable on “this aircraft” today’.

Yeah another VA flight last week, as WP no issue with wifi, I'm like 12/12 wifi working well. Guess I'm just lucky.

Yeah had minor hiccup on flight 4, but gee, all fine.

Why not tell the gate agent on arrival… the one who opens the door… so pax waiting for the next flight are given the opportunity to download material in the gate lounge, using airport wifi?
Heard them do this in MEL just a couple of days ago. An announcement at the gate well before boarding saying that the entertainment was inoperable, and to download material before departure.

It used to be part of procedure to announce that, even when I was there almost 10 years ago now. I guess it slipped out of fashion but I agree it's quite easy to make some effort. You won't always get everyone, but you also won't get everyone by sending an SMS or app alert about it either. At least there is some effort.

Yes. But as i mentioned previously, it’s the crew who complain it is ‘just as hard for them’ not having wifi or streaming. Yet when the door opens, they still don’t mention it! So you have to wonder sometimes 🤷‍♂️

Not working on my flight last night despite announcements to the contrary.

Then about 40 mins into the flight another announcement that it was ‘experiencing some difficulty due to weather’. Now that’s a new one?!

Maybe the copper line trailing behind the aircraft connecting it to the telephone exchange got wet 😉

Was just away for business over the weekend Syd-Mel and both flights had announcements of wifi but on either flight couldn't be accessed.
At first thought it was my phone, tried iPad, tried laptop. Nothing.

I download enough to keep me occupied but I'm yet to experience wifi on a flight.

Yep with the VA fleet and last minute aircraft substitutions/reliability issues its just not even worth considering inflight wifi as anything other than a "lucky" bonus if it does exist, but pretty much I plan on no inflight wifi as a given and a 50/50 flip of the coin on inflight entertainment that is reliable. Pretty much BYO entertainment is the only reliable option at the moment.

Did you see any of your seat neighbours have any success?

Quite often I ask the person next to me if they are also having issues to work out if it might be my device, but it does look like you tried multiple devices on hand!

When the original (internet) wifi was rolled-out it was never smooth and I recall hearing various FA's frustrated with it as the entertainment wifi rarely had issues. No doubt, it's going to take a while for the new system to settle in.

Nope. Saw a few people try but gave up.

Both flights had the wifi logos on the overhead cabins but nothing. Oh well..

Just in case anyone has a VPN connected, it doesn't seem to work when on, turn that off and you can connect.

I don't think the Wi-Fi logo is necessarily definitive? It could be a legacy aircraft that still has the symbol but the Wi-Fi hasn't been reactivated yet.

I've also had WiFi on aircraft without the symbol!
Absolutely. I've had the same in the past. The indicator that wifi was possible was that the flight attendants mentioned it was available on both flights. Oh well.

Someone didn’t pay the bill maybe?

More seriously, I was on ANA last week and the crew announced the satellite system is not currently reliable and wifi is unlikely, so it’s not just VA.
