Virgin Australia UpgradeMe pricing and success

I have a couple of Economy X vouchers I was hoping to redeem, however I also have an UpgradeMe bid submitted for the same reservation. I was told on the phone that if the Economy X voucher is redeemed, and then the UpgradeMe bid is accepted, then the Economy X voucher is forfeited. Seems counter intuitive given that Economy X cash fees are refunded in the same scenario. Anyone have any experience with this, and if this is correct? Thanks in advance!

$75 SYD-MEL mid-week early morning cleared (on a plane with no wifi :( ).
$65 MEL-SYD mid-afternoon did not.

I put a couple in for MEL-BNE return last month. $75 and $85 (min was 60 or 65). No luck, but my friend with no status who bid the same got hers both ways 🤷‍♀️

Another couple of recent datapoints:
BNE-MKY on VA605 Friday morning, bid minimum $65, no luck (J was 8/8)
MKY-BNE on VA616 Sunday afternoon, again bid minimum $65, no luck (J was 7/8)

Yes that’s unfortunately how it works. Assuming there are still plenty of X seats left, one strategy could be to wait until 25 hours prior to take off and if the upgrade hasn’t gone through then use the X voucher. You can’t use the vouchers <24 hours before take off. And you still might get the upgrade, so not a perfect strategy
