Virgin Australia Platinum Plus Status Discussion

TSV-BNE & BNE-MEL today, was lucky enough to have the same CM, he was great and recognised Platinum Plus with a personal greeting and water/chocolate.

I've been submitting a fair bit of feedback lately for both the positives and negatives, one of the things I've been suggesting has been for a complementary drink from the buy on board menu. Who knows if it'll get anywhere but we'll see.

What’s the best way to provide feedback?

As a relatively senior flyer, this tier makes no sense to me. If VA were serious, they would include the BEYOND lounge – they haven’t, which indicates they want high-cost entry for low-cost offerings. No cigar, or even consideration for a special section of the existing lounges with upgraded food and drinks like QF offers in its AKL lounges.

Might have to use this. Would love to use it for positive feedback, but nothing comes to mind.

Can't remember the last time I got a bottle of water. While I can appreciate that maybe on a full BNE-SYD with only 60 mins flight time they may have other priorities (benefit of the doubt), but currently sitting on a half empty, 2.5 hour flight to ADL, so can't think of any reason they don't have capacity.

As a side note, used up my 500 of "partner" SCs, so no more SQ for me, back to CX and my QF LTG for my trips to China. Lounge access is better given OW vs VA lounge shambles.

awww!

Got the same thing, but as an entry form… with the requirement to state in 25 words or less why virgin is like disney, or something.

More watered down benefits... I know it was a publicly undocumented benefit but as of 1st June the premium priority call centre will no longer waive the reward seat change/cancellation fees.

And to add to that, they have also removed the ability to use platinum upgrade with 3+ seats still available - it is now only upgradeable if a points seat is available.

Compared to Qantas Platinum 1, the Platinum Plus program is really a joke. Platinum 1 release seats all time - Virgin, cant even ask. Platinum Upgrades are again useless as they have decreased flights and never have business seats for upgrade. Even trying to buy business with the reduced schedule is hard. sometimes with no seats even for sale a week out.

The only think I think they could do would be to allow Beyond lounge membership for platinum plus (maybe at 2,500 status credits or something - at present there is no incentive once you have lifetime gold and have qualified for platinum plus). I will still have Platinum Plus due to amount of flying but Virgin gets about 25% of my domestic flying and my strong preference is now Qantas - better lounges, better treatment, larger network, international flights, more seats released, more flights and fly forward / same day changes that actually available (which is never available with Virgin business as they grant all the $50 upgrades the night before so no seats are for sale on the day).

While business class might seem to be cheaper on Virgin, due to the above, it comes with no real effective flexibility - I can see why Virgin cant win in the corporate market and most people stick with Qantas.

When did this happen? It actually made the Platinum upgrades usable (and hense worth something).

Without that, just left with the Oz call centre, and a half point for the Kris Flyer lounge in SIN (the gold lounge isn't too bad, and it is only one airport it makes a difference at anyway). And those 1.5 things are definitely not worth focusing travel with VA (given the obvious downside travelling VA vs OW). An overall much better experience will be WP with both QF and VA.

I am only a few SCs short of retaining WP+ and not enough time to get QF WP before the review date in 10 weeks, but come Sept I'll be back on the roo more often I think.

Totally agree
I am booked on Bali to Sydney flex ticket plenty business availability but not allowed to use upgrade
Flew SQ and the code share is totally shot
Got passed around lounges, just embarrassing
Back to old QF for me

I'm not a VA flyer, but the chat around my circles had always seemed to have been space available, i.e. as a Platinum (or Platinum Plus, in this case), if there is a seat, you can upgrade into it using your instrument, no questions asked.

This is a shock to me. (Yes, it doesn't affect me personally)

It use to work all the time, but in the last week I have tried on 3 separate bookings on three different calls over the week and been declined on all three despite 4-5 business seats for sale on each flight with D class available (but no Z). Silly me booked economy thinking that I will finally get to use the platinum upgrades for the first time - didn’t work so I just cancelled all three reservations to travel bank and booked them with Qantas.

Again it was never a benefit so its removal was never announced.
