Virgin Australia orders 8 Embraer E190-E2 jets for delivery from 2025

Perhaps the J seats might entice the C suites who fly to keep giving VA work. It’s a nice ride over the Network A320 without J and we all know like politicians many C suites like their business class.

From my experience almost all of them pick network a320s regardless due to higher frequencies.

Virgin seems to be more contractors and newer employees, business cabins tend to go empty or are used when flights are completely full, in some cases people can use their own money for cheap upgrades if they are with a smaller company which doesn't restrict it.

No J catering on charter flights, but presumably have it on regular RPT flights to KTA/PHE/BME/ZNE.

Charter flights tend to have snacks or light catering in Y as well.

It appears your wishes have been answered.

All Alliance Fokker flying on the following routes has now been switched over to the VA 737 effective the week starting 2 February 2026:
  • Brisbane - Adelaide
  • Brisbane - Canberra
  • Brisbane - Mackay
  • Brisbane - Mount Isa
  • Brisbane - Townsville
This is a very recent change. Until just a few days ago, they had only switched the Alliance Fokker flying to the 737 until the end of March 2026. This has now been extended throughout the entire booking window.

The remaining Alliance Fokker flying for VA past 2 February 2026 is on the following routes:
  • Brisbane - Emerald
  • Brisbane - Gladstone
  • Brisbane - Newcastle
  • Brisbane - Rockhampton
Just went to book a BNE to ROK flight in August and I noticed all the flights were VA 737s so maybe that's another route that's done away with the Alliance Fokkers.

I hate to think how far back it goes it’s been a while.
Since 2021?

Since 2021?
Alliance has operated on behalf of Virgin out of Brisbane in some form since 2012.

BNE-ROK has been a mix of 737/ATR/E190/F100 over the years. Excluding the COVID minimum schedule, this is the first time in well over a decade the route has been exclusively served by the 737.

F100s have served BNE-NTL on and off over the years, but exclusive F100 ops were pretty much a post-COVID thing. The 737s were the predominant aircraft on the route heading into COVID/administration with some F100s mixed in.

All that is left of Alliance for Virgin out of Brisbane is 6 weekly flights to Emerald and 8 weekly flights to Gladstone.

That "Virgin Australia/Alliance JV" aged well... that happened around the same time that QF Group announced their 20% stake into QQ plus their own initial wetlease through the E190 aircraft with QQ under the QFLink branding.
