Virgin Australia Neighbour-Free Seating

QF doesn’t double sell.

It’s not a gimmick on QF, it’s been extremely successful. I for one am a big fan of it, especially on international flights.
It's a gimmick. QF should block it for status pax if loads allow. It's another money making process.

If you've booked a seat already and bid for NFS but other people have booked the seat next to yours (because they're allowed to), then there's nothing you can do...

If you've booked a seat already and bid for NFS but other people have booked the seat next to yours (because they're allowed to), then there's nothing you can do...

I don’t know how VA has implanted this but QF will propose new seating in this situation that comes with NFS.

This is also the reason that NFS is in the order of tens of dollars but EXST (which I think is mostly guaranteed to remain with you) is in the order of hundreds of dollars.
With an EXST, you have actually paid the base fare for it and as such should be guaranteed.

NFS is a way to monetise distressed inventory in seats likely to go unsold.

When the NFS offer arrives in the email, it’s a signal the flight won’t be full so I take my chances on getting a free NFS based on status and shadow…
Seems to work best on QF in rows 5 - 10 but not 4 as “extra legroom” encourages some to “buy up big”
