I wonder what they have planned for the red-eye flights?
In J, they serve a snack service, then dim the cabin lights and then serve breakfast before landing.
It will be interesting to see whether they serve a meal in Y straight away or do something similar to what is done in J.

It'll only be one meal in Y - surely they wont do 2 on such a short flight.

I would imagine it would be some meat slopped into a container at the start and thats it.

Most likely. I am more wondering about whether it will be a 'dinner' service or a 'breakfast' service?

Okay so I guess it's time to ask if anybody was on a transcon flt today In Y class? How was the food offering?

Did Perth to Syd today in J. Kids weren't interested in J meals so we ordered one of each of the Y meals. Choice was either chicken curry and rice or vegetarian pasta. Both meals tasted really good especially for Y meals. Unable to comment about presentation for Y and they were both presented as J meals (proper plates, etc.)

doing the redeye in economy this Sunday night KGI-PER-MEL XR/DJ flights, so will report back if no one beats me to it.

Flew PER-SYD on 27th but used my comp upgrade so can only comment on J meal (lamb shank - very tasty!) however on the 10 am SYD-PER so will provide an update in a few hours time.... unless the op-up Gods shine on me at the gate!

Yesterday it was butter chicken with rice and few peas, served with a bread roll that was surprisingly tasty and a little muesli bar thing for dessert. It was fine for an economy meal.

The service was pretty slow - it was a 1pm departure and we didn't get fed until after 3pm. And I was still hungry afterwards.

I had the same on PER - MEL on Sunday night. Not any better or worse than what Qantas is offering but it could have been served quicker.

Do they still offer the BOB service in addition?

The BOB menu is no longer available - most likely because of galley space and offering both BOB and full service would take a huge amount of time.

Penne pasta or roast chicken, apparently - can't tell you anything about it as I slept through the meal service! I think it'll be interesting to see how often the meal choices rotate, as it looked to be a single menu in Business for all Coast-to-Coast flights - a choice of 3 mains on eastbound flights and 3 different mains on westbound flights. If that menu doesn't change much Business travellers are going to be sick of repetition pretty quickly!

DJ will go full service across all routes Jan next year, PER East Coast is the test bed for how things go before a full small rollout, so there will be a few kinks.

You sure they'll do this on-time

But not a moment too soon to be honest, the current mis-match of service would be annoying for the average customer

I unfortunately don't have any photos, but I do know the trays are the white (original) flexi trays.

I'm sure someone will be interested in knowing that... :p

A few months is a long time in the airline industry, however the Townsville refueller who was masquerading as a CSM on a flight recently assured me this was one of the few upcoming changes as the next phase of the game change plan continues to kick in.
