This would cause some thought for me and alliances if it comes off-
Virgin hints at signing up to SkyTeam
VIRGIN BLUE has given the strongest hint yet that it may join the Delta Air Lines-led SkyTeam Alliance, which is aggressively seeking new partners in the Asia-Pacific.
The suggestion that Virgin could join the world's second-largest aviation alliance was contained in a filing to US regulators about the planned tie-up between Delta and Virgin's long-haul offshoot, V Australia, for flights across the Pacific.
In a joint submission, the two airlines stated ''it is possible that Australian-origin passengers might benefit if V Australia were to join SkyTeam''.

Interesting, although secretly (and publicly, now that I've posted here) I wouldn't like DJ joining Skyteam!

In these types of negotiations, plenty of blustering and "what if's" are raised.

I suspect that DJ are just raising this as a "What if" type statement.

While it would be an interesting tie-up, I will make the point that V Australia <> Virgin Blue.

t is possible that Australian-origin passengers might benefit if V Australia were to join SkyTeam'

So one could question exactly what is being proposed. Although, my own view is that it would be good if Virgin Blue was to join an alliance, with reciprocal FF benefits and all.

This would be a good outcome - provide a WORLDWIDE alliance connection, if indeed DJ joins (as opposed to "just" VAustralia.)

I guess there's some pretty hard number crunching going on at DJ to determine if the cost of joining Skyteam/ongoing costs will result in more net revenue.

I think it's a good idea.

No idea how it will pan out altogether, although getting that triple alliance elite status would seem a lot easier ;)

Well, you could get DJ gold comped, per that other thread, and then you’d have only actually earned one alliance ;)

*A would be a much better alliance for Australians.

*A would be the "better" alliance for Australians if only that is using the mentality "get with the winning team".

Skyteam have no strategic foot in the South West Pacific. That could change dramatically if DJ/VA join Skyteam, and then followed up by the newcomer VN and even better possible entry from MH.
