Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Later on 13 July, VA853 (1500 hours MEL up to SYD that took off at 1608 with B738 VH-YFI) should arrive at 1710 hours, 45 late.

In the opposite direction, VA850 (VH-YFX) is arriving in MEL at 1713, 38 minutes tardy.

VA1327 is the scheduled 1530 hours classic mid afternoon HBA up to MEL with B738 VH-VON. Arrival is expected 43 minutes behind the timetable, at 1728 late this afternoon.

On more on Friday 13 July, the PER - ONS VA9307, F100 VH-FNY took off at a much delayed 1823 as it is a scheduled 1545 hours off blocks. Expected arrival is 143 minutes late at 2008 hours.
 
Sunday 15 July 29 sees VA83, the 1000 hours morning SYD up to HKG recently introduced flight not having taken off until 1211 hours. A332 VH-XFE should arrive at 1955, 135 minutes late. This aircraft looks to be returning south on VA68, the 1810 hours HKG - MEL so it will be very late.

VA1510 (1320 hours early afternoon MCY down to MEL that was airborne at 1411, B738 VH-YFG) should be at its destination at 1631, 41 late.

The 1240 hours MEL - PER did not become airborne until 1407 hours with VH-VFT. Expected arrival for VA683 should be at 1558, 58 late.

VA1249, the 15 July CNS down to MEL with B738 VH-YFC is arriving at 2039 hours, 39 minutes behind time.

The SYD - MEL VA878 is similar, with arrival of this scheduled 1830 hours ex SYD (VH-VUP) suggested as 2042, 37 late.

The CBR - MEL VA286 has VH-YIB with arrival forecast for 2059, 49 late.

B738 VH-YFF has the task of the 1905 hours evening ADL across to MEL VA242 that took off at 1955. Arrival is predicted for 2135 hours, 40 late.

VA886 (1930 hours SYD down to MEL, VH-YFI) was in the sky at 2011 so it should be at its destination gate at 2136 tonight, 31 late.

The 2000 hours SYD up to BNE, VA989, took off at 2048. B738 VH-YFU looks to be arriving at about 2209, 39 late.

Monday 16 July 2018 finds northbound VA901, the 0600 hours SYD - BNE not taking off until 0739. Arrival for B738 VH-VUW should be 84 late at 0854, a delay that will be difficult to recover from during today unless there is a lengthy layover in the middle of the day when demand is lower, or a return flight is cancelled.
 
Cairns Airport was evacuated on Monday 16 July due to a security breach, but by about 1300 hours, rescreening was occurring.

The Cairns Post has photos of a queue outside the terminal.

The 1200 'high noon' MEL up to BNE, VA327 was airborne at 1330, abut 75 late. It looks like B738 VH-YFJ will arrive at 1518 hours, 68 minutes tardy.

VA1593 (B738 VH-VUF, the 1215 hours MEL up to NTL) was in the sky at 1326, so arrival an hour late at 1435 is the go.

VA331 (Tuesday 17 July 2018, the scheduled 1400 hours MEL - BNE with B738 VH-YIE) was airborne at 1458, so arrival is expected at 1648 hours, 38 late.
 
B738 VH-YFX on VA748, the 1700 hours from OOL down to MEL on Wednesday 18 July that took off at 1742 hours should arrive at 2020, 55 minutes behind schedule.

VA690 from PER across to MEL is worse with A332 VH-XFH suggested as arriving at 2030 tonight, an hour late.
 
VA810 (0715 hours Thursday 19 July SYD down to MEL, in the sky at 0805 with B738 VH-YFT) is arriving at 0943 hours, 48 late after holding above Mt Buller in the usual position.

VH-VUL on the following 0730 hours southbound, VA812 was airborne at 0823 and looks to be at its destination gate at roughly 0956 hours, 51 minutes late.

B738 VH-VUA on the 0800 hours was in the sky at 0834, but as at 0950 had only just emerged from a Mt Buller holding pattern so arrival is deferred until 1010 hours, 35 late.

The 0830 hours ex SYD, VA820 was not pointing skywards until 0919 so arrival for VH-YID is delayed to an expected 1044, 39 late althougfh the plane is nowhere near Mt Buller yet so a lengthy hold may mean further tardiness.

On Thursday 19 July 2018, VA83 (recently introduced day flight, 1000 hours SYD - HKG with A332 VH-XFE) took off at 1117. Arrival is estimated at 1926 hours, 106 late. This will delay the returning overnight flight.
 
Later on 19 July, VA1157 (scheduled 1845 hours SYD - TMW that was in the sky at 1924 with ATR72 VH-FVG) is arriving at a forecast 2022, 32 minutes tardy.

The 1700 hours MEL up to BNE, VA351 did not take off until 1751. B738 VH-YFY should be 38 late in arriving at 1048 tonight.

The NTL - BNE VA1109 has VH-VOL and should arrive at 1950 hours, 80 minutes late.

On what thus far has been a stormy night in MEL, VA238 (1805 hours ADL across to MEL that was airborne at 1846 with B738 VH-VFW) is arriving at 2055, an hour tardy. It was held above Rupanyup.

VH-YFX (B738) on VA880, 1845 hours SYD - MEL in the sky at 1912 is following with arrival at 2057 to be 37 late.

The MEL - SYD VA885 has B738 VH-YFL and should arrive at 2120, 40 late.

VA1615, Friday 20 July's 0940 hours MEL to MQL did not take off until 1057. B738 VH-VUA should arrive at 1151, 66 late.

This will not just delay VA1614 (returning flight) but VA1324, the scheduled 1340 hours MEL down to HBA and its return VA1327, plus perhaps more flights.

VA873 (1745 hours MEL - SYD) has been cancelled.
 
As has VA882 SYD-MEL 1900 due slot and then subsequent curfew restrictions to operate VA899 back to SYD thanks to those howling westerly winds prevailing runway 25 for most of the day.

According to the displays in Melbourne Lounge all Mel to Syd flights cancelled until after 18.30.

That makes sense. VA899 has had an aircraft swap because we were supposed to operate VA882 down to MEL. We’re currently delayed an hour on VA427 so this would have a domino effect and we wouldn’t be able to make curfew back into SYD.

Hopefully you get onto a flight soon enough.
 
VA331 (Tuesday 17 July 2018, the scheduled 1400 hours MEL - BNE with B738 VH-YIE) was airborne at 1458, so arrival is expected at 1648 hours, 38 late.

VA895 seems to still be operating albeit almost an hour late, curfew maybe an issue if delayed much more.

On what is as noted above a windy Friday afternoon and evening in SYD, VA1179, the 1630 hours from ABX up to SYD (ATR72 VH-FVZ) was in the sky at 1723, arriving at an estimated 1854, 64 late.

Great to watch AviatorInsight and his colleague handling B738 VH-YVC on the aforesaid VA427 - the scheduled 1530 hours mid afternoon ADL across to SYD that was in the sky (in a piece of nice timing) at exactly 1630 hours. Arrival looks to be at around the 1905 mark at gate, 75 late.

VA859 (1600 hours MEL - SYD that was in the sky at 1734) is worse with VH-YWE probably arriving at 1915 hours, 110 minutes tardy.

The 1630 hours from HBA up to SYD, VA1535 has B738 VH-VUO and was in the sky at 1741 late this afternoon. Arrival is suggested as 1944, 84 late.

VA966 (1635 hours BNE to SYD) in the hands of VH-VOK) took off at 1750, about an hour tardy so arrival may be at about 1940, 90 minutes late. This aircraft was extensively held in the usual location above Pokolbin.

the OOL down to SYD VA536, the 1705 hours late afternoon departure took off at 1808. VH-YFG should arrive at 1948, 73 late.

VA888 (2000 hours Friday 20 July SYD down to MEL, A332 VH-XFH), a rare treat on Australia's busiest by far air route was in the middle stages of its taxiing as at 2156 hours, so it will be about 100 minutes late arriving in the southern capital.

The BNE - SYD VA986 has B738 VH-VUQ and is arriving at gate at roughly 2207 hours, 87 late.

VA487 (VH-YFT, 2020 hours SYD up to MCY) was still taxiing at 2237, so an arrival after the predicted 0002 hours on Saturday 21 is on the cards.

VA992 (2005 hours BNE down to SYD, B738 VH-VUI) is arriving 66 late at 2246 hours.
