Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Gotta love how the same vegetable tart and chicken panini were described in different ways by CSM's.

Coincidentally, I asked a CSM on how often the J class meals are rotated and she said they do it every three months or so.

On that note, I guess we will see more of the vegetable tart, chicken panini, stuffed mushroom and chicken cacciatore pasta for a little while unless there is a new menu coming soon.

A bit disappointed to hear no special dietary meals in J, BNE-MEL even when advising ahead of time . Particularly a gluten free meal. How knowledgeable do you think the CSM is of ingredients?

When I flew VA J with my kids earlier this year the CSM (completely unprompted—my kids don’t have allergies) produced an A4 folder with all the meal options and a full list of ingredients/dietary stuff etc and showed it to us when going through the options. Not that this helps you if there’s no GF option, but they do have the info on hand.

In my experience, VA J is often better than QF J, at a much more affordable price (although, to be fair, some QF FA's do try to provide exceptional service).

And, you can now redeem VA points on SQ J.
And one of the best benefits going for a frequent flyer program - it's almost completely unparalleled - you can speak to VA on the phone when you need to!

Dinner options on this 6pm flight were Spanish Chicken or the vegetarian Korean Bibimbap. Unfortunately we were in 2D and 2F (somewhat by choice and accepting the risk of sitting in those seats!) on what was a full flight and all six of the other passengers went with the chicken, so bibimbap was all they had left for us!

The dish was tasty although very much on the smaller side, the chicken looked better. Not sure if this is the norm on the MEL-SYD corridor but was disappointed to see no dessert included, just the cheese and crackers.
Story of my flight except I was in 2A...

Saturday afternoon flight had the quiche and chicken sandwich on offer again. No photos taken as there are multiple images already on the thread.
I opted for the sandwich and really didn't enjoy it. The chicken had no flavour, certainly not cajun spices. The slice of cheese had melted on the base of the serving bowl, not the chicken and the bread was very crispy. I had a couple of bites and moved swiftly onto the cheese and crackers.
I'm looking forward to a menu rotation.
Service was great as usual and drinks topped up through out the flight.

Some are starting orders anti clockwise because we find 90% of the time guests in 2D-F will miss out and we're tired of it so reversal to keep it different.

The only meal preference we go first by technically is for VIP guests first followed by whoever is seated next to them.

I know a few and myself do start with platinum orders first if we don't have any VIP onboard or just go by our 1A to 2F.
I flew VA0776 on Sunday CSN-BNE and booked late so got 2D. Breakfast just got served front to back and left to right so when it got to me the option I could eat was gone. Was offered pretzels but just had black coffee. Saw most of the the boarding passes of the other passengers and their phone passes were red. So much for being Platinum.

Hi all, about to take 4 flights in J for April/May holiday. I don’t eat chicken so do you think I should flag this with the service centre in advance? Or just mention to the cabin crew upon boarding?

I don’t necessarily need a vegetarian option but if the meat option is chicken then I won’t eat it. Flights are 23 April BNE-SYD; SYD-LST and then 3 May HBA-MEL and MEL-BNE. From the posts here it does seem like chicken is in high rotation as either sandwich or pasta.

VA don't do special meals, so there's no point calling. You'll have to choose from the available options but there is usually one meat and one vegetarian.

Just let the CM know when you get a chance before the door closes so that they can keep a non-chicken option aside for you. I've always found the CM's accommodating.

BNE-HBA 2.10pm service. Choice of Spanish Chicken or bibimbap with mushrooms (although described this time by the attendant as just Korean rice). Same as the flight up. This time I chose the bibimbap, which was very nice. Much nicer than the chicken. Nothing compared to the bibimbap on board Korean Airlines though (understandable). There was some chilli in the dish, but no massive chilli tube like you get on Korean Air. Based on the recommendations on this thread, I had a g&t with the meal before swapping to the red wine. It was served with the same ambiguous cake as the flight up (I think it might be trying to be lemon). The order of service followed the seat numbering, starting from 1A.6860B76B-18AA-4C7E-88CC-5D674F7D7BBC.jpeg

Yesterday’s flights for lunch and dinner

VA947 Sydney-Brisbane: Still that chicken katsu and burrito bowl. Thought the menus changed seasonally … I had both flying Adelaide-Melbourne-Sydney at the end of November. The katsu was very popular so myself in 2D and passenger in 2F only had the burrito bowl to select from.

VA352 Brisbane-Melbourne: Chicken tagine or cheesy pasta. Stuffed myself with karagge chicken and coleslaw in the Virgin Lounge earlier, so this time opted for the cheesy pasta (which I got, being seated in 1C).

Service yesterday afternoon MEL-OOL was from 1A (me) then around in the usual pattern. It was the "Dirty Cajun Chicken Rice" or the "Cauli Poke Bowl" - went for the poke bowl and it was fresh and tasty. A G&T and a couple of reds made for a pleasant flight.

VA859 Melbourne-Sydney: cajun chicken or Asian style salad with rice; opted for the latter as I had a big lunch. Not usually a salad person, but tasted very nice.

Despite being seated in 2F, my playing the allergy card (they asked if we had any dietary requirements or allergies, which I hadn't experienced before) meant I got the first choice of meals and got served first.

We don't ask for allergens or allergies so I guess it's just crew being nice and trying to accommodate.
