Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

It depends what date you are travelling in OCT, but for most of OCT out of SYD it is an AM snack flight so you should get the Egg and Bacon Pie and fruit salad. The last couple of weeks are the Semi dried tomato spinach and fetta Tart and fruit salad. The beers in J are Fat Yak Pale ale and crown lager. The wines will be a choice of two whites and one red plus the assortment of spirits and mixers avaialble. If you get the Egg and Bacon Pie, a hint !!! Don't even attempt to eat the top of it, just peel it off and go from there. In the cooking on board it seems to get this hard film over it that is inedible.
only 4 of each beers loaded in J class

True! However, if you are willing to slum it and have a beer from economy then you should be offered that as an alternative, but if not you need only ask and it should be provided. Pure Blonde and Cascade Premium generally.

Last flight I was on they run out of Y class beer

Flew J (points upgrade) tonight DJ543 SYD-OOL. Flight was 20mins late due to arrival bird not landing until about 5 mins before our scheduled departure.
Lounge staff didn't really have any idea what was going on, no announcements about the late flight or acknowledgement when the boarding time had passed. Oh well. More Fat Yak for me.

Load 7/8 in J. Choice of meal was between a green curry (prawn) or a spinach, mushroom and cheddar pie. I don't think anyone chose the pie (myself included). The curry looked pretty bad, and I had regret when she laid it down in front of me, but it smelled pretty good, and it did indeed have a good flavour. Rice a little burnt in patches. After tasting I was happy with my choice, though I would had liked to have seen the pie for comparison.

I chose a 'Yarra valley' Riesling, no mention was made of the label so I didn't question it. It was a good match for the curry.
I'm attempting to post a pic, not sure if it'll work from my iPad.
It looks like it might be gigantic. I apologise and will have to fix it later. In the meantime you'll just get to enjoy in vivid detail the appearance of the dish..?

Doesn't look as bad as some of VA's past business class dinners, but I still can't believe that call those 2 tiny chocolate coated nuts desert. Every meal should have a dessert as good as the pana cota that you get on afternoon snack flights.

Agree

Ice cream sandwich/cookie dessert
OR
Panacotta

^ Is that the "chicken fingers" sandwich? I had it on an 11AM BNE-SYD a few months ago. Was okay, decent snack I suppose. I much preferred the fruit salad with passion fruit dressing.

What is going on with the huge piles of mushy peas? A garnish is fine, but who can deal with the huge dollop of this stuff?

Mushy peas are great on a pie as long as they have frsh mint mixed in with them, they can certainly improve a good pie from my experience. I think these meals are looking good, the chicken sandwich/fingers look nice and I think it is a better offering than the scroll. It would be good to see an improved cheese plate.

Dinner: Penne with lamb meatballs, linseed roll, salad

No pics but very disappointed with tonight's flight...SYD to MEL.
Only 4 of us in J

Orange Juice or Water on departure.

Choice of Mushroom Pie or Prawn Salad for main. I am allergic to both mushrooms and seafood (a genuine allergy, not a dislike). FA very apologetic...offered cheese and crackers from the trolley instead. I declined and asked for a bread roll with butter instead.
Was looking forward to the flight (6pm departure time)...a shame on your profile you can't specify any dietary requirements like international flights.

Flew this evening from Sydney to Perth, A332 VH-XFE (booyeah!). Fantastic layout and J seat comfort. J load 10/24, my seat 1K (incidentally I think in the new config all seats are about as good as each other, in terms of leg room etc.

Awesome experience from start to finish. Friendly and attentive crew.

Started with a Pinot Grigio that wasn't in the wine list and was delightful, but the hostie was incredibly apologetic when she went for a second refill as they'd only loaded one bottle.

Warm nuts to start.

I had the lamb salad entree, pretty tasty. I didn't see anyone go for the soup.

I chose the snapper which was delicious and easily the best aircraft meal I've ever had. Very tasty, and the fish was cooked perfectly, not dry or rubbery.

Finished with the cheese plate, most people seemed to pick the flourless cake. I have a weakness for cheese though...

Fantastic service, great flight. Y cabin looked heavily loaded (I took a walk) and I don't think I saw any rows of 4 with only 1 pax.

The only weak point for me was 'red' - sure its better than the tablet option, but they've disabled half the stuff they have in the 777 system (maps/flight info etc) - or at least it didn't work on my flight. Otherwise the screen size was food, though I found the contrast a bit poor. I had my backpack stolen last night (bad, bad luck) so I am sans iPad and stuck to the IFE.

I will do my best never to fly anything but business coast to coast, with half price points atm its an absolute no brainer!

We would have past you waiting as we arrived from Perth on XFE last night, flight info was working but maps weren't on the way over.

There was only 4 spare J seats and the service was just as good as when there is only 4 in J. Kids (4 & 8) were looked after well from the time we boarded. One thing I did like about the IFE was you could play the games with anyone else, especially good with the kids when sitting in different rows.
