Sir Richard Branson wants to develop planes so fast that passengers will be able to travel between New York and Tokyo in less than an hour.

And he says the technology could be available sooner than we think.
Speaking to CNBC, the entrepreneur said that once his Virgin Galactic space tourism project is underway he will turn his attentions to developing supersonic commercial flights that fly at 19,000 mph.

It's the next logical step, there is only so many "the residences" which airlines can start flying around with to make flying nicer. The next real step forwards is to fly faster. One of Concordes biggest problems (apart from the price) was that it was limited to super sonic over ocean routes only thanks to the sonic boom, and with it's range was it was the only route it could really be put on and have a hope of being viable was transatlantic. But by taking something up to space, sonic booms are no longer a problem...
