Hi,

I booked tickets on Vayama . com with Virgin Atlantic for the international legs and V Australia for the domestic portion. Called Vayama, Virgin Atlantic, and V Australia but none can confirm what is the free baggage allowance as they say it depends on the ticket issuer. In other countries, usually the originating flight determines the maximum free baggage allowance. Does anyone know the answer?

Thanks in advance!

And also, do we have to recheck in bags to V Australia after customs in Sydney and again pay baggage fees a second time?

The baggage allowance on your eticket should be the same for every segment.

This is due to the USA DOT exception of IATA regulation 302.

FWIW, if all on the one ticket, the baggage allowance should be that of the flight number of the first transpacific flight in the itinerary.

Also, your luggage should be
checked through. At SYD you collect it, pass customs then head to the VA transfer facility to take you to the VA domestic terminal.

Thanks serfty. Virgin Atlantic said that since a third party agent (Vayama) sold the ticket, they cannot say it is all one ticket. I want the free outbound baggage allowance with Virgin Atlantic as V Australia has no free baggage with certain fares. V Australia said it depends on what fare Vayama sold me but Vayama says it depends on what V Australia says. We have six persons traveling and I am wary of paying up to 12 bags unexpectedly (outbound and return).

Glad to hear they have a baggage transfer area.

Giving up on Virgin and going with Quantas as the different Virgin airlines seem not to have any idea what their policies are (just spent an hour calling around).

Baggage transfer only available FOC if on same ticket.

I would be asking Vayama for the ticket numbers - hopefully only 6 - and using them to check you booking.

(Do you have a VA booking reference? If so you can look it up on Virtuallythere.com.)

If a travel agent couldn't give me a clear answer about baggage allowances I'd be quite concerned - how competent are they going to be if there's an issue that's actually important, like a significant schedule change?
