Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points

Would love to hear more confirmations of people getting flights over east from Perth. I was going to get the missus onto the platinum edge until we saw this offer. I still think as an ongoing concern the edge would be a better card (love mine), but the 110k points are so tempting.

It's probably too early too have more confirmations as some of us are still waiting for the card; over a month for me now. The good thing with Amex is that the will refund the annual fee pro-rata, so I would apply anyway, try booking your free flight and if they say no, cancel the card and apply for the Platinum Edge a few months later.

Thanks M@rco, wasn't sure if anyone would admit to even receiving a referral bonus in this thread (lol)... anyone else since 22nd?

p.s. Free bump for your (Mrs that is) referral:

(yes i went searching for it :D)

Haha thanks mate - the referral I received on the 21st was for my charge card, Mrs is the one with the Velocity Plat and she's now talking all her friends into it - no wonder Amex is running out of plastic to make the things :)

Yeah, I guess. We're pretty conservative and don't really want to damage our credit ratings by applying and closing too many cards in a short period of time.
Does anyone know if Amex will convert this card into an edge after a year or so if requested?

That's the ticket :) I'd be burned at the stake on here if I was to reveal the number of referrals I have secured....

That said its not hard to sell though, 110k points is madness and the free flight makes it a no brainer.

I would say even if you don't get return ticket from Perth to eastern states, you can still get return flights to say Broome which is also very expensive. In fact I found that sometimes it is more expensive than going to Sydney from Perth.

In fact, once I used one of the free Amex flights between Perth and Broome because it is so expensive.

Anyway, if you want to apply the Velocity Platinum Amex, here is my link:

Alternatively (or additionally), you can get Qantas Ultimate American Express Card, you get 80000 Qantas points AND free Qantas return domestic flight, and from Perth, you can definitely go to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide:

If you can book from PER-SYD using this card, does anyone know if you can use points to upgrade to J?

Yes, at least mine are eligible for upgrade. However, it is 30k points one way.

As I mentioned earlier, I have 2 flights booked PER-SYD for October.

Hi everyone!

Well I've FINALLY got my card (and my referral link below) - it took much longer than the 5 days they said it would take for the card to arrive. When I called them to check on it all they gave me a super amusing excuse: they had had so much uptake that they had run out of the plastic used to make the cards.... ?!?!

If we haven't reached total saturation I'd love someone to use my referral!

Flippantflyer, when did you book your flights? - Just wondering if the flight maps could have been changed after you booked yours? Maybe in advance of this promo knowing it'd super popular.

Hi all, I finally received the card after quite a long wait. Used one of the link in this post, so whoever's link it was, hope you get the points. I got approved a week after applying. Then received a letter saying there is a delay and cards will only be sent out on the 20 August. Received the card on 27 August. Only started to use the card, might be buying some holiday flight tickets to hit the spend target for the bonus points.

Anyway, here's my link and thanks in advance.

Questions: 1) Are the complimentary lounge passes transferable and 2) Do purchasing Virgin gift cards from the Entertainment Book count as "Virgin purchases" in order to earn 3 points per dollar?

1. No. They are electronic but you can use them for guests.

2. No. They count as Entertainment Book purchases.

Questions: 1) Are the complimentary lounge passes transferable

Answering Q1, not fully, read the t&c that came with the card. The passes are linked to your card itself, you need to be there to use it, but if you have lounge already, you can invite a 2nd guest in as 1 use of a pass, travelling with VA on the day of course. Also, not sure how strict they are, but it limits access to 2hrs prior to flight departure....doubt they would ever enforce

Re Q2. FroggerADL has replied, but to note when I spoke to AMEX yesterday they did say that Everyday Gift Card purchases thru Entertainment book would count as 3x pts on a Platinum Edge card (eg groceries!). I was very specific as I had just spent $1900 to fulfil the Vel Plat spend, and he said absolutely 3x pts on the Plat Edge card...Of course no use for Plat Velocity

2. No. They count as Entertainment Book purchases.

1. Bugger. That's annoying! Almost pointless when I have status unless I ant to bring in a 2nd guest.
2. Bugger.

Actually I'm not sure about 2. If the purchase goes through Virgin it would get the bonus points.

When you buy Woolies cards from EB you get redirected to the Woolies site and they count as Woolies purchases.

Sorry if I misled you.

No need for apologies. You were trying to answer my questions and, for that, I thank you.

I applied for the card, but I already have 3 AmEx-issued cards.

They called me and asked: 1) I close 2 out of my current 3 AmEx account, because they now allow maximum of 2 cards, and 2) to inform me I will be ineligible for the bonus, because I am already an AmEx customer.

I am happy to close 2 of the cards, but I wonder if everyone here knows whether they will give out the bonus even if people are current customers? I don’t want to pay the annual fee if there is no bonus.

Thanks.
