Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I came a little late to this thread. I have an Amex Platinum Edge, but applied anyway, using a link from this thread, declaring the card.

Application approved, card received 4 days later, spent $1k the following day, and 110,000 arrived in my account the day after.

Here is my link if anyone is interested in applying.

Thought I should add my referral link to the ever growing list, and add some potentially useful info.

I got the bonus points despite stating in application that I already had a Platinum Edge card. But then had to create a new log-in for Velocity card - wouldn't let me add it to my existing profile.

Found the card very useful so far for restaurant purchases - gives me 3 points/dollar every time. Even with online Menulog delivery orders - so when combined with Velocity E-store route, works out 5 points/dollar total.

Free domestic return flight information

I didn't have flash on my laptop, so it was difficult to use the AMEX Velocity Platinum flight map to see the available options for the free annual domestic return flight you get with this card. I also noticed a few discrepancies between the map and the terms and conditions - so thought I'd try and summarise/highlight them for the capitals here.

If you find this information useful, and are interested in signing up, you can use my referral link to get an extra 10,000 points (110,000 total) - thanks!.

Some interesting points regarding the free domestic return flight in the t&cs:
  • Route availability is subject to change without notice.
  • You may book your Flight in the name of another individual, but not for an unaccompanied minor.
  • Each flight must be a non-stop Virgin Australia operated flight, booked in saver fare classes. Flight bookings in saver fare class ‘Q’ may be booked up to 24 hours before time of travel. Flight bookings in other saver fare classes must be made 21 days in advance of travel.
  • No Points will be awarded for travel on these Flights and Flights will not be eligible for upgrades using Velocity Points.

No warranty or guarantee of accuracy in the information I supply here - I've just tried my best to summarise and be helpful :) You should still read the t&cs yourself before signing up.

Free domestic return flight information
...

It is interesting that there is that discrepancy between the map and the T&Cs. I don't know if anyone (particularly Perth applicants) have tried the return domestic flight feature yet, but I would be sticking to the T&Cs besides anything else. Not that it affects me in Brisbane too much :)

Here's the same information, from the T&Cs, but in a tabular form.

I'm in Perth, so I'm very interested if anyone has managed to get to Sydney on the free domestic return flight. Not being able to travel to another state with it would be a shame. I think someone said previously that they did use it to get to Adelaide, so I'm hopeful. I'll probably try and book it before Christmas, so will report back with how it goes (but might be awhile). I'm thinking the maps might be more up-to-date than the t&cs as those are dated 2011 in a few places - but don't hold me to that!

If I may assist and others that are new to Velocity. You can use your velocity points on Virgin and Etihad to Abu Dhabi where you can travel to many ports into Europe. For Etihad availability if you can't find what you are looking for on the Virgin site head to Etihad Guest Miles (free and do not need to be a member) to look for Business and First availability. If you see what you need there ring Velocity and get them to look for it. First will NOT show ever on the Velocity site. You will be looking for a "Guest First" or "Guest Business" seat. For those that have the points and are interested there is a Guest First on the 380 showing available right now on the 20th August to Abu Dhabi!!

To add further information that a prospective applicant may find helpful and therefore click my link!

The magic point amount required for a Europe return trip is 250,000 points for a return business class (J) seat.
250,000 velocity points would also get you two return economy(Y) seats. If you are lucky enough to have a companion/husband/wife you is eligible to apply..... two credit card 110,000 bonus amounts plus one referred amount will give you 240,000 points. Need another 10,000 points and you don't think you'll achieve it soon enough with credit card expenditure or flying (or begging from a relative) you can purchase velocity points from the Starwood Preferred Guest program, SPG points transfer to Velocity at 1:1. Join SPG for free and purchase 10,000 points for $350 US. SPG membership is free. (There is typically a two week wait between joining and being able to purchase SPG points).

Hi all...just to add my experience into the thread to help people decide on taking up the card.

I became a Plat Edge card holder in January of this year (on a side note, received sign on bonus even though I had cancelled my last AMEX 6 months prior). Applied for the Velocity Plat card - instant approval & card arrived in no time. A few days after receiving the card, I received the letter from AMEX stating 'given you are an existing card older we have taken this into account in deciding your credit limit...etc etc'. Admittedly, my hopes of getting the points quickly faded when I read this, but after reading posts on here from fellow AFF's, my hope was restored. Not wanting to wait any longer to find out wether or not I would get the points, paid a few bills in advance to nudge my spending over the $500 mark and hey presto....110,000 swept to my velocity account today

So take what you want from this, received sign on bonus being an existing card holder + after the $500 trigger (not 1k).
If I can be of any more help just shoot me a PM or if this was helpful in deciding to apply feel free to use my referral

Interesting. Hubby was able to use his existing Plat Edge log in....

I used my existing one. During the activation process, there is a link you can click on that asks you to log in if you are already registered for Online Services.

In the end, it doesn't make a big difference anyway, if only that you need to remember another set of username and password.
