I do find it odd that these two things occur simultaneously. They have a system advanced enough to allocate points to other peoples accounts, yet seem to not detect (or not care) that people are still getting points even when they have an existing card. Either someone in their IT system made a big mistake or it's actually intentional. I lean towards the latter.

It's actually not that simple when you think about it again. A simple implementation would be to check vs currently active accounts (e.g. match it with the entered existing card number in the form). Then it needs to check whether that number is a supplementary card. Then it becomes somewhat prone to abuse (people using it to check whether the number is a valid active card number). Then what about people who have closed their account, how to match with those (presumably without card number or active account in the database)?

At the end if they're willing to do it, it's possible (some other banks do that anyway), but it requires some work to get it right (or maybe it's good enough if it works 98% of the time :D). However this is significantly more complicated than the link generation part.

Oh, and here's my link again

for those who have split the referral bonus - how does this work in practicality? don't most programs disallow transfers, particularly when surnames are different? (and please don't PM me with your offers)

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered - how long (generally) does it take for the points to be transferred over to Velocity? I see the bonus points have posted in the "View Points Summary" section but still a big fat zero under "Velocity Points Transferred".

In my case it was 2 weeks. YMMV.

If we haven't exhausted all the sign ups, please feel free to use mine ... I'm a long way off. Many thanks

The gods of random numbers picked 344 (after a few numbers whose post wasn't a referral link), so get me outta here (hopefully)wins referral points from me :)

I got a page saying the application was accepted and they'd let me know in 5-10 business days - I'm not sure whether they usually give you instant approval or not, I don't remember from the charge card.

Thank you so much doctau that was good luck for me :p, best of luck with your approval, hopefully you will hear positive news soon.

It doesn't. Its a breach of the Velocity terms and conditions to transfer points to anyone who is not a family member. Not to mention transfers are limited to 4 per year. Also there's no way of knowing who used anyone elses link so anyone could hit up anyone who offered to split the referral bonus demanding their 50% of the points.

I don't know why anyone promised something they were unable to do.

Hubby has a Platinum Charge card and the Platinum Reserve card that kind of came along with it. He has been approved. Now will have to wait and see if we get the points. I used a link from here but honestly have no memory of whom I clicked. hoping it wasn't someone who had maxed out on referrals.

Good luck! I just made the 1k spend today so the wait is going to be excruciating for me as I already have a DJ's Amex.

According to other's experience, it shouldn't be a problem as it's not a direct AMEX. I already have a direct AMEX, and I got my points very quickly.
