Virgin America site drops Flash to court iPhone

This is rapidly running away from the topic; however, using Outlook on a Windows PC? For at least myself, Mail.app (along with Address Book and iCal) work very nicely together to keep my e-mail and schedule in order. If you connect to an Exchange 2007 server, it all just works as well.

Am looking forward to see what the Mac Business Unit at Microsoft manage to come up with for Office 2010:Mac (which is supposed to have a full-blown version of Outlook) - that being said it'll be a pretty tough sell (for me) just for e-mail. :)

*forcing it O/T again...*
Agreed. I don't own a windows PC that gets used anymore all my servers/desktops/laptops are macs. I refuse to use Outhouse. As the 8 ball says "Outlook Not So Good".

Mail.app does it all for me. And as notzac says, "Outlook" is coming in Office 2010. It'll be interesting to see how bad/good it is. Entourage always was a piece of shyte. Mail.app with necessary modifications is brilliant :)

Or anything but IE? :)

There is an OSX Silverlight runtime and I've had no trouble using Silverlight sites, and the odd app, under Safari on my MacBook. Also it does work in Chrome under Windows.

Agreed - But how often would you want to try book a flight via an iphone?
The most complex thing I have done is booked a movie.

I’ve ordered pizzas, but that’s an app not a website :p

I working as a technical specialist for a 'Creative Industries' Faculty within a university. Trust me once you work with macs in a enterprise space with 'creative' academics you soon learn to hate apple.

Oh I know what you mean, my uni likes to use a proxy for the wifi access and that creates all sorts of issues, though to be fair, the PC’s have problems too.

Agreed - But how often would you want to try book a flight via an iphone?

You're right - not often. But I *have* used the AA mobile site to book and pay for a LAX-LGA run, and it wasn't nearly as complicated as I was expecting it to be.

Both Adobe Flash and Apple iPhones/IPad are evil products. I just can't work out which is worse.

Umm - how dd this one slip through to the keeper? The iPad - a device you have never used is evil? Man get some credibility.

The iPad - a device you have never used is evil?

The specs have been released. We've seen Steve Jobs wave it around like it's the solution to the world's problems. That's enough to give a good idea of the product, especially when Apple has gone down similar paths with the touch/iphone etc and history repeats itself.

Of course it's seriously lacking in features - will be locked down to "Apple approved" content, won't multi-task, is missing a camera, has the standard Apple internal battery that ensures you have to be close to power points lest the battery fails while you're doing something important.

Apple is a company built on hype and a mass of fan-bois. They want full control of everything but pretend that people have choice.

They are a modern day equivalent of parts of Microsoft and Google combined - and not the good parts of those companies... the bad parts.

Um, right. But they're still not the evil ones, right?

Um, right. But they're still not the evil ones, right?

I'm no Google or Microsoft fan either btw.

Microsoft has gone through their anti-trust days etc and have come through on the other side with more competition and some serious corrections to the way they do business.

Google has strange privacy policies and collects way too much info about their users (and yes, I use Gmail/Maps/Search). They are also starting to become similar to what Microsoft was once like.

Evil? I don't think so in their current states. BTW evil is a lot more than just the devil with horns, or some weird witches hovering over a cauldron...

You mean, it isn’t?!

Of course it's seriously lacking in features - will be locked down to "Apple approved” content

Well, as bad as everyone claims that is, it seems to be working quite well, just look at what’s happening with Android…

won’t multi-task

Multi-tasking is a funny thing, because on an iPhone I can exit an app, launch another in seconds, get the info I want and be back in the app I was in previously as if I never left, but that’s not multi-tasking?

is missing a camera

Everyone wanted a camera, Apple didn’t. It seems there might have been one at some stage but Apple couldn’t make it work, not sure why, but is a camera really going to be useful on a device that’s intended to read books on?

has the standard Apple internal battery that ensures you have to be close to power points lest the battery fails while you're doing something important.

I hear it has a very good battery life, but we’ll have to see once it starts shipping.

Apple is a company built on hype and a mass of fan-bois. They want full control of everything but pretend that people have choice.

Close, I’d agree with your first statement, and say that Steve Jobs wants to control everything, and the choice you have is to like what Steve likes ;)

They are a modern day equivalent of parts of Microsoft and Google combined - and not the good parts of those companies... the bad parts.

They have been involved in a lot of patent disputes lately, and more annoying, Steve’s so caught up on his iPhone and iPad that his macs haven’t really been getting the attention they used to get. I send them bug reports all the time with obscenities telling them they’re not focusing on the issues, haven’t got any fixes yet though :p
