Virgin 737-700

Noticed my economy flight from Western Australia to Melbourne Friday is a 737-700 series (didn't realize they had any left) I'm seated in 2D with 2F shown empty.
Has any one flown on their 73W in recent times, have I been given a J class seat or are these the seats with the movable arm rests that make them wider.
Also any idea if they have IFE installed. Free to Air etc.
Intriguing.

Last time I was on 1 they had J but the Live2Air screens had been covered up.

Not sure if they still have any in all economy config, that being said the economy seats are wider and more comfortable than the new generation ones.

It's normal 737 2 x 2 business.

I flew one in December, it was the newer J layout as mentioned.
From memory the FA said there were only 2 left in the fleet.

By "new", does it mean that the VA J rows is like the QF J, where there is actually 2 seats at Row 1 and 2 on the 737, and not the "old" system, where there are 3 seats at Row 1 and 2, but with the middle one blocked off by that drinks/food/etc table?

Definitely two larger seats, not three economy seats with the middle unsold. All their 737s have this now. They don't have wifi on the 700s, or if they do, it never works.

VA have never sold the old PE as J on domestic. Trans Tasman is another story

Well they sort of did in the early days of J prior to having all the aircraft upgraded. There are a large number of stories of people getting a subbed PE 737 aircraft on a J ticket.

It when on for some months until all the aircraft were done.

As I recall, there were some AFFers who actually defended VA for doing that as well! It continued until there was such an outcry that VA removed J seats for sale on the 73Ws or perhaps it was removing the 73Ws from J routes......even though many of the aircraft had them (and IIRC, many still got to sit in them). Remembering this was reasonably hot on the heels of the "rouge" PE seat fiasco that was also defended here by some as "OK"!

As has been noted many times, the only consistency with VA is their inconsistency!

I guess there's those booked in 388 F on Qantas transpacific this weekend flying 744 J thinking what the ...

It happens with all airlines although the PE/J of virgin blue was or even the PE/Y that also occurred.

For the record, proper J seat for a 737 assuming the 800's don't have a foot rest as the 700 didn't. No IFE whatsoever or any sign that it even existed front and rear cabins.

Loved the flight, everyone got a flexi type meal (wrap and a chockie bar) Found a mate i used to work with down the back end of the A/C it was his first time on VA (wow.. really) Crew didn't mind at all that he joined me up at the pointy end for a couple of beers.
