Is visa on arrival safe to do and please indicate a reliable company to use. Thank-you
 
As someone who travels to Vn 12-14 times a year VISA is vital - you can get it online and then at the airport (photograph necessary), however, if RINGER lives in Sydney, take quick trip to VINA Travel in Marrickville Road Marrickville - you will need your passport, a photograph and you need to complete 2 entry forms.
VINA is an agent for the VN government and their service is outstanding - see Danielle.
Alternatively go to the Consulate in Edgecliffe - limited hours and long waits - VINA travel is 5 minutes (I have no association with them just use them frequently)
Remember one thing however: VN visa costs money - as in cash - whether you go to the Travel agency or to the Consulate they will only accept cash - no EFPTOS - no Credit Cards - just cold hard cash.
Happy travelling and you will enjoy VN.
Read carefully all the warnings for tourists - drinks in the main hotels with ice "no problems" BUT DO NOT allow ice in ylour drinks in the street.
 
We had visa on arrival in January this year and no problems. Took around ten minutes to process visas for our family of four in Hanoi. I had also heard on various on line forums that this could take a while so was very happy at the quick turnaround.
We got the email required through vietnamvisapro dot com - again with no problems. This website was highly recommended on the Trip Advisor forums. Note it is also cheaper to get the visa this way than through the embassy.

While it is the government that issues the visa on arrival, I think you actually have to apply through a local tourism company. I used vietnam-visa.com without problem, and there are others around. It can be a bit slow going through some of the airports. The VOA process in Hanoi runs with communist efficiency. When I return to Vietnam, I'll more likely get a proper visa beforehand.
 
I used myvietnamvisa.com this year and picked it up in Hanoi airport. totally easy, will use again. No need to send your passport away. very happy

IME recently the VOA took over 1 hour to process & appeared a very antiquated & ...slow... process @ SGN airport.
If I have the chance again I would avail of a full visa beforehand to expedite the arrival process.
My also recent Cambodian experience was so much more user friendly & so much more efficient @ REP airport by comparison.

I'm in the camp of reccommending a visa before departure. A VOA is 'safe' but as others have noted, can be time consuming.

Agreed. Been to Vietnam a few times and I always prefer to organise the VISA before arriving.

I much prefer to walk off the plane and out through customers without waiting in line with half the plane load for a stamp!

Has anyone else noticed that on the letter you get ftom the Consulate for the displays your name and passport details along with those of other passengers doing the same thing?

I would always opt for a hard visa in my passport compared to the alternative. Why make identity theft/fraud easy for people.

I remember thinking it was a very strange thing at the time, one of the reason I get the VISA before.

Just thinking back... I miss Vietnam.

My last one was individual
 
I was recently quoted and paid $170AUD for 2 single entry visas which was a rort in my view. I suspect I was quoted for express processing. Couldn't fault the efficiency though. Express mailed passports at 10am in Brisbane, delivered to Canberra for processing and returned to Brisbane 10am the following day.
 
I agree with puppysparkes...I express mailed my passport and received my passport with visa stamped within two days. A simple form and a money order is all it takes. I just came back from Vietnam today

I like to take the hassle out of holidays. No matter where I go - I get the visa sorted before flying.

Have seen some mighty queues for VOA in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Agreed after consulting AFF, we've got a new dslr and its possible that I'll post our first ever trip report.
