Velocity Transfer Bonus 1-25 October 2022

thankyou!!!!
this is fantastic is i'm now slightly better off than transferring directly to Kris,

I'm happy too -- have a small number (~60k) of ANZ points I wanted to get out of there before churning. Ultimately I want them in KF but I'd prefer not to kick off the clock on 3 years' expiry yet if I don't have to. With the 20% bonus that works out at about 3k extra KF miles going via VA.

I was hoping for this as now my ANZ and ANZ business cards have expiring points by the EOY. I do think that ANZ points used to not expire but that has obviously changed in recent years?

Anyone with ANZ Rewards holding off till next year in the hope for a 30% bonus ((as in Nov-21)? Or is this the new normal and we ought to be lucky with 20%? Currently have 800k in ANZ rewards so the 10% difference is an extra 40k in velocity points..
Thanks

From searching around, it seems for ANZ, the best way to spend the rewards is transferring it to Velocity for the bonus points, is that right? Can anyone confirm it please? Thank heaps!

Do the bonus points get automatically added by Velocity when they hit the account?

Did an Amex Transfer tonight starting on Velocity website and there was a mention on Velocity main page of the bonus but nothing whatever when the conversion of 2 to 1 was done etc.

I transferred from ANZ. The bonus points appeared at the same time, but on a separate line.

Does anyone have some experience of the timeline transferring points from Accor to velocity? The guidance on the virgin website was up to 6 weeks and was wondering if thus matched people's experiences. Transferred some today to top up for a possible trip in Feb.

I transferred some ALL points at the start of this bonus promotion. Can’t remember exactly how long it took but it was a couple of days at most. Definitely not anywhere near 6 weeks.

Thanks for sharing. A couple of days would be great. Accor IT systems can be a bit 'unpredictable'...part of its charm. I'll keep an eye out.

The down side is that Velocity has increased the number of points needed for redemption flights by between 50%and 70%.
I searched an ADL to KUL rtn flight for early August 2023 2 weeks ago = 83,500 pts. Same search today = 112,000 pts.
Offering a 15% bonus on transfers and then devaluing the points by half is not a good deal.

It’s not the points so much as the carrier charge that VA introduced for SQ redemptions as of 5/10. The actual points cost of that redemption has only gone up from 53k to 57k. 122k is the cost to pay for the reward seat plus the taxes and the carrier charge with points.

Paying 65,100 points to cover the $388.83 in taxes and charges is not great value (you’re getting less than 0.5c value for each point there). Better to pay the tax/carrier charge in cash and keep those points for your next J redemption (65k would more than cover the return leg in this case). If you click through there is a slider on one of the screens to choose the points/cash split: drag it all the way to the left!

Thanks for the explanation.
SQ search showed ADL to KUL rtn at 61,000 Kris pts so I could exchange 95,000 Velocity points (1.55 for 1) and book directly with SQ

Ah. You’re looking at Y redemptions. Sorry I misread and assumed it was J.

For ADL-KUL in Y the VA points have actually gone *down* (from 28k to 27k). But the new carrier charges have pushed the total cost up.

So based on a random search just now, VA points required for ADL-KUL return in Y is 54k plus ~ $350 in taxes/carrier charges.

Via Krisflyer direct for a Saver redemption its 61k KF (or 94,550 VA transferred to KF at 1.55) plus ~ $161 taxes.

So that’s an extra 40,550 VA points to avoid ~ $189 in taxes. Again around 0.5c value per point. I think the VA direct redemption (and paying the taxes/charges in cash) is still better value

(Of course the best value here is to spend 114k VA points return and pay whatever the charges are and go there and back in the comfort of SQ J…)

Thanks for the feedback. My point redemption skills are quite rusty.
My plan for the Accor points might not be the best use but I had some Krisflyer points due to expire soon. I thought it best to use points I had in other programmes (Accor, Flybuys etc) before purchasing the 5-10K I needed.
