Velocity Status Benefits on Partner Airlines

Further to my previous post regarding lounge access in DOH for VA WPs, I noticed that the QR boarding pass showed my status as Velocity GL which I interpreted as Gold. I didn't query it at the desk as I had my physical card and most of the benefits are the same for WP as SG. Was this an anomaly or does the QR system not differentiate between VA Plat and Gold?
I believe QR boarding passes shows PT for VA Platinum (but EMER in other cases where it's oneworld status).

@Rebus It definitely does show PT.

I flew two intra-Gulf region QR flights in Y this week and had my VA number in the system. (booked through QR website - QR tix)

On the stub side of the boarding pass only, it had small text “VA********123/PT”

I had no issues checking in at the J/F counter at JED; was directed to third party lounge at JED; or accessing QR Plat lounge at DOH.

Thanks. In that case it seems that the QR system is not correctly identifying my status. Or that there is an issue on the VA side. In some ways it doesn't really matter as VA Gold still enables me to use the J counter and access priority boarding which is all I am really interested in when travelling with my family.

Were you Gold at the time of booking and attained Platinum subsequently?

Do Velocity status benefits, and the ability to earn points and SC, apply on all United Airlines services, or only those to/from Australia? I am thinking of a UA booking ex DUB to YYC via YYZ.

All. UA is also the only partner that will give you 100% platinum bonus without needing a VA flight number.

But how could you fly United from DUB to YYZ??? Do you mean going via EWR first?

Earning applies to any AC and UA flights (but not on each others codeshares, if that makes sense- ie don’t buy a UA codeshare flying on AC metal.

Some AC domestic flights might be non earning fares.

Not sure if this is the exact place but rather than start a thread I'll ask here. We are travelling to Doha in August on QR in J (points reward) and arrive about 2300h. We fly on to Helsinki and Stockholm the next day at 0800 (Finnair so not QR or a partner). I've read that we can access the QR lounge on arrival but have read conflicting reports. There's a lounge either side of immigration as I understand it. I assume we can access the lounge on the arrival side but probably not on the outside as we aren't flying on with QR. I am a VA WP (I think I will still be by then).
I was originally going to simply stay in a hotel in town but given the onward flight is only 9 hours after arrival it's not worth it. Also the airside hotels are overpriced (for a tightarse like me) for overnight stays - they aren't too bad for stays during the day.
Anyway just wondering if we would be able to linger in the lounge for some hours before the next flight even though we aren't flying with QR.
(I just asked Chat before I posted this and got the answer that I can access the arrivals lounge but not the fancy one on the departure side, so maybe I didn't need to post this. Still I'd be interested to hear of experiences)

Is your Finnair flight in J or Y?

You cannot access any of the Qatar Airways lounges transiting through if your next flight is not on Qatar Airways, unless you hold the correct OneWorld status, as you'll be flying on a OneWorld airline next (being Finnair) OR you are flying in Business on Finnair as J would give you lounge access irrespective of any status.
Your next flight determines lounge eligibility.
When entering the lounge, they will always want to see your next flight ticket to see if you qualify.
That's why it's best to stick with a QR flight on your next leg, where possible.

Without an onward J ticket and if you haven’t got OW status your options are to stay at the airport or head to the city. Taxis are cheap and efficient plus you will be in the city in 10 minutes. Plenty of hotels under $100 in the city

Sorry for the confusion, I am also looking at AC options, one of which is DUB-YYZ-YYC.

Thanks for the information regarding the Platinum bonus
