Velocity Offer 'that's out of this world'

I'm glad they post here, and Miss V posts on ski sites.

Personally I'd prefer to see (in tandem with bonii for moi) the 25m bonii go to charity and scholarship groups, eg Doctors without Borders, Can-teen Kids with Cancer, Starlight, Make a Wish Foundation.

So says the resident Virgin PR department plant.

Lets call a spade a spade. He is on the site to promote Virgin. His recent bagging of Tiger was not offering assistance..it was bagging Tiger to promote Virgin.

Just to be clear, I participate here on my own behalf, openly identifying myself as a VB employee. No-one asked (or encourages) me to do it. I do not work in the PR or Marketing departments, but part of my role is gathering insight and market intelligence so I can happily justify reading/posting during business hours. Any opinions I express are my own (does this sound like I should work in the Legal dept?) and not company policy unless I specifically say so. I also try to be as factual as I can about information I give, but obviously I don't bother giving positive information about competitors who are quite competent at blowing their own trumpets. If you don't like reading what I post I think there is an "ignore" facility in the forum software which I would encourage you to use.

However I will believe real value when I actually see it. For that real value to actually be any good, it actually has to be superior to your competitors and value that anyone CAN achieve...rather than a tiny lottery like chance.

I think you will find it does deliver your definition of real value when the time comes based on your subsequent comments about what you like.

Please consider this post an encouragement of such activity, personally I think its good that a rep can post here, your bias is is clear for all to see and the board is better for it in terms of credibility and the accuracy of information.

The rest of us provide comment and feedback behind a veil of secrecy in terms of our identity and employer (with the exception of those who have met others at AFF or similar do's), and as such our posts should be taken in that context.

Do I have an issue with a rep (official or unofficial as the case may be) promoting his own causes, not at all, I would have an issue if they did not!

Wasnt the QF promo only 1 million points.... so therefore it is already a superior offer?

Why are we all being so negative about it in this thread???

Even if it is a competition for 25 million points there may be goodness in
how one enters the competition.

And has for calling another forum member a PR dept plant.... I for one am grateful for Dave's posts here and the help he offers people when they have complaints etc... he gets things done. That for me is also valuable...

I don't see QF here with someone to offeer assistance like DJ do.

Agree completely, Dave and Ricky have both proved valuable on this board.

Thanks. I should have said "no-one from Virgin Blue encourages me..." as I do get the occaissional public and PM encouragement on this forum which is appreciated thank you.
cheers

I appreciate the intel.

With the torrid Jetstar/Qantas junking of my trip to Nagoya vs the honourable way Vaust handled the boeing strike, I'm moving to V as soon as the Amex bonii are - finally - allocated. (I'll have to top QFF to finish off a flight on Qantas (unless the V promo is really really big)

And its refreshing to see V are actively reading up on what we might want to see in a promo. Of course, we'd suggest 1000 bonii per 1 cent paid off a Vodaphone bill, but Amex has the patent on that brilliant idea:)

I'm willing to wait (and I'm sorta not doing much until I get the overdue Amex bonuses anyway:evil:).

I think it'll be really worthwhile.

Just to be clear,

but part of my role is gathering insight and market intelligence so I can happily justify reading/posting during business hours. .

So we are clear then.

You are a Virgin employee who posts here on Virgin Company time which you see as part of your job.

So some of what you post may be insightful and helpful...but it is clearly also biased.

Just to be clear.

You also do not just "gather"...you "push" as well...so you are "bending" or "spinning" the truth there. So call it what you like you like...you are pushing PR or marketing on a public forum as part of what you do..and are paid to do it. You are not just "gathering insight and market intelligence".

I don't have a problem with you posting here as you outed yourself.

However I also don't have a problem in calling a spade a spade either.....and you promote Virgin on this forum and so do not pretend that you only gather info.

So we are clear then.

Lovetravellingoz

Perhaps you would like to add to your profile and share a bit of information about yourself as crazydave has, at present it just reads "lovetravellingoz has not made any friends yet ", so that we are clear then

I'm really confused by your point  I thought Dave was already out and proud as a Virgin employee. I don't see any outing has happened. I have no recollection of not being aware tha Dave worked for virgin.

As for bias - that can't be helped when the facts are in your favour ;) :)
Seriously, I think Dave has been very fair in his prosition on Virgin and I think at least once has taken on board negative comments about virgin and not giving a biased denial.

Yeah, I've no recollection of not having known Dave worked for Virgin either, it's always been very clear. I would be curious to know what lovetravellingoz's affiliations are, he certainly seems to have an axe to grind about this.

Well want to you want to know?

I don't work for QF..
I don't work for any airline...or indeed for any travel business, bank or financial business that may be a source of points.

My employer does not sponsor my time to post on ths forum..and so I am happy to post here tonight in non-working hours...or on my lunch break.

Once I was an Ansett Platinum Member and I still rate the Goldern Wing Lounge a lot better than the QF Club I now have to use.

I used to fly fortnightly for work...but changed careers to enjoy more time with family and am content with only 3 or 4 work trips per year by plane.

lovetravellingoz came about as my preference was lovetravelling (my hotmail address that I created backpaking through India over two decades ago) but this was not available and so I added the oz.

I mainly use points for International Awards for a family of 5....and so far have done so to Cairo and back. Thailand several times and New Caledonia.

Used to use points for rewards such as Melbourne, Whitsundays, Sydney, Alice Springs on the one trip back when you could do so cheaply on points with no add ons. When that stopped I shifted to international flight.

My current focus is to redeem with SQ..and have managed to store up enough points now for 5 Business Class Tickets to say London return. Just have to find the right time to go (might have to split that into two trips to get the 5 seats though). Hopefully the Everyday promo will provide me with quite a number more.

I am an engineer professionally....and have an interest in the worlds best football boot (www.concave.com) coming to Oz very very soon.

My first travel experience was at the ripe old age of 3 weeks when I went camping at Seaspray....and I have kept scratching that itch ever since. Though I do not remember that particular trip.

Oh...and yes I have flown with Virgin!!!! Including one stint of every week for seven consecutive weeks. Never bothered to count how many times all up...but say 50 odd times including a MEL CNS return.

Anything else..please ask.

Cheers

I am not sure why the confusion..by outing himself I merely was acknowledging that Dave has always been upfront with his Virgin affiliation.

However I do not know why he is pretending that he is not promoting Virgin on this forum as he clearly does. Maybe he does not see it as promotion? But it is.

He does not just gather information and answer questions as implied in this thread.

I certainly do not think that there is anything wrong with Dave's posts...but they do contain "pushing" of Virgin.

Sorry to disappoint..but I am not a closet QF employee...nor am I related to one...or even know one!!!

There is nothing in my thread or other posts as far as I recall that say or imply that I do not also seek to promote the company I clearly identify with. I would say the mere act of participating as a clearly identified VB employee and answering questions alone count as promotion. As I posted earlier I try to keep it factual, and offer my own personal opinions rather than automatically toeing company line. But there is no implication there that I am not promoting the company too.

Lovestravellingoz,

V's posters saved me about $2k on one trip by hinting that Vaust might have great fares in the wings. Months passed and then finally there were those $999, $1300, $1400 fares. Woo hooo.

Our family were going to transfer points to QFF for seats before we forgot to 'save' those points from being useless for flights I'd be really peeved if Dave hadn't hinted there's something in the wings. I can wait til I get my amex bonii. I've enrolled rellies in Velocity just in case this next promo is as useful and big as I think it will be.

So Dave, please keep posting.
