Velocity international award redemption. Huge anticlimax!!!
No business or first class redemptions available on Delta or Hawaiian from USA to Hawaii

Give it time, things are only just opening up.
I have seen some Y from SYD-LAX with DL and some Y from SYD-HNL with HA (some J also) but I’ve seen zero coming back from the US. I would think that things might take a little while to sort themselves out

I am talking about US mainland to HNL.

Yeah, I was having a look at Etihad availability earlier as well. While I can see some availability through Velocity, there are flights where J award seats are available to members of other frequent flyer programs but not Velocity.

Weird…

I apologise if this isn’t the right place to ask but I’ve booked a business ticket to Abu Dhabi on points for January. In the event of a cancellation due to covid whether cancelled by me or the airline, do I get the points plus the fees I paid in cash back? Also booked a first class ticket on emirates departing Dubai so hoping that is also refundable in the event of another covid drama.

Yes, Velocity reward seats on international flights can be cancelled without fee for travel until 31 December 2022.

I was able to find availability from SYD/MEL to DEL, BOM, HYD, cough, but surprisingly MAA is not even a valid destination on VA website :(

Re : J seats - I was able to find J seats in Mar 2022 SYD/MEL-DEL via AUH

"Cancellations and refunds are permitted prior to the commencement of any travel.

Cancellations must be requested at least 24 hours prior to first scheduled departure and refunds are subject to a 7,500 Points or $60 charge per guest per booking.

Refunds or re-credit are not permitted once travel has commenced."

The points/cash charge is being waived until 30 April 22. (Note discrepancy with above date-so not sure if the better one above is OK)
The flexibility to cancel is one of the advantages of award seats

You *should* be able to book to MAA if there is availability on EY by calling the Velocity Membership Contact Centre. Hopefully they'll waive any fees as this can't be booked online.

Before calling you could check for "GuestSeat" availability on the Etihad website or perhaps try the Air Canada website.

I jagged 2 X adults + lap infant to Abu Dhabi from Manchester next year in business with Etihad, one way. 106k points and $1300.

Didn't have enough points to get back so paid a cash fare of $1200 premium economy with BA back from DXB via LHR.

All told the outlay was approx $700 more than the return economy cash fare on EY, but flying business one way and premium economy the other so I see it as a win, especially considering the extortionate costs of premium cabin flights ex-UK to the UAE.

I think I used to see redemptions as needing to cost near to nothing in $, but I'm now much more of the thought I'm happy if I'm paying economy cash + points to get business seats. If the cash component is very little, ala AC or SQ (or AA) it's just a delightful bonus.

Second redemption booked in the past week. Now to hope te whole thing doesn't come crashing down, and also start earning some points again!

I may be a bit dense, but how the heck do I book a J award with SIA?

If I book direct with SIA I’d have to use my KrisFlyer account- but there’s no longer a mechanism to xfer points from Velocity.

You can't yet using VA points.
The transfer process (which is very uncommon in the FF world) is still being negotiated but is at least likely to happen.
SQ are currently not releasing award inventory to any partner programmes

Thanks, though it was just me. Might have to look at the other airlines mentioned here then. I am sitting on a stack of points and a VA credit from pre administration.

From the recent update:
We are working closely with Singapore Airlines to plan for the reintroduction of Reward Seats and the ability for members to transfer Points between the Velocity and KrisFlyer programs. Please review this page for the latest updates.

Just booked 2 EY J award flights FCO-SYD in October next year. 139,000 pts each. Taxes were high @ $647 but just happy to get to use my (almost written off) Velocity points again.
