Velocity Gold questions

I am currently a Silver member and need Status Credits Required to Upgrade 11,269 by 30 Nov 2011.
I am flying MEL-PER on monday 18th in Y+ (Returning same day)and spending $1907 incl gst.
This should earn me 6 points per dollar = 11,442 status credits.

Yeah GOLD status....

But... I am flying VAustralia MEL - SYD - LAX - ATL departing Mon 25th...
Then VAus again DTW - LAX - MEL in J

So finally to a question....
A. Will I be a Gold member before i depart for LAX?
B. Will the USA trip be at the Gold earn rates?
C. How quick will I get the Gold card? I would like to use the benefits :

"V Australia International ex Los Angeles, USA Complimentary access to Alaska Airlines Board Room, Los Angeles International Airport T3"
Website states that I need : "Gold Membership Card &
Boarding pass for the same day travel on a V Australia operated flight as part of an international itinerary"

Whats the chances? What about a letter from Velocity and a printout for the website confirmation?

You should get the status within two to three days after the flight, the card is a different matter! I would suggest a PM to velocity rewards would help!

You will get access to the Alaska Airlines lounge in T3 by virtue of the fact that you have a J boarding pass and regardless of whether or not they have confirmed your Gold status by then.

I sent the email and was contacted today by the Velocity Membership Operations Co-ordinator who has sent me a letter , written to the lounge partners, stating the Gold status change had occurred and asking them to extend the membership benefits to me.....

The Virgin and Velocity teams are great. I am glad you got all of this sorted out. They helped me a few weeks back too and I got some points and SCs credited within two weeks - no mean task for a Virgin America flight

Today there appears to be an issue booking with Virgin Blue website - two times the booking wouldn't go through (have to be at Sydney airport this Thursday for work meeting) so I rang up DJ who fixed the issue whilst I was on phone in a flash - and it ended up costing a fraction less than quoted on the website?!!!?! Don't know what the issue was - but as always they solved it so quickly.

I'll be up to 499SCs after I'm awarded my SCs for a flight taken on December 7th, the SCs I expect will rattle through on the 9th or so. I have an international flight leaving BNE for LAX on the 14th.

Under these circumstances, what are the odds I would be awarded Gold in time to take advantage of the international lounges.

PS I have another flight on the 10th of Dec which will bump my total up to 514SCs, but am hoping the membership upgrade is triggered when my SCs climb to 499 in total.

How likely is any of this? Seems like Velocity are pretty good at this sort of thing.

Yeah you'll need more than 7 days to get your new velocity gold welcome pack in the mail, it takes normally 2-4 weeks after you get your welcome email. I waited 4 weeks but that was during the period where Velocity was offering status matching to Qantas FF as well, so perhaps thats why it took so long to get my gold pack.

And you won't be able to get into the international lounges unless you have a card.

But you might want to talk to the Velocity center and see if you can get your gold card with 499SC and get your card early before your flight on Dec 14.

I would be surprised if the system clocks to Gold at 499, at least without manual intervention which may or may not happen, if it was QF it would not happen.

I can tell you from experience that I recieved an email that said "As you are so close to achieving Velocity Gold" and got upgraded in the high 490's so you should be ok

Anyone else had this experience as I'll probably fall just short of platinum before the end of the year?

Or, depending on your location, grab a $59 sale fare for the next couple of days to anywhere... $120 well spent for 20SC, and instantly over the line.

I was upgraded to Gold with 497 SC in June this year, this was automatic, from my end at least

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but I just wanted to add another data point to the "is close enough good enough" question surrounding status upgrades.

I've just logged in to my account and have discovered I've been bumped to Platinum on 988 SCs. I took a HBA>MEL flight today that will net me 40 SCs but these have not yet been credited (will take my balance to 1028).

The upgrade obviously would have happened anyway but it's nice that it's happened ahead of time so I can bask in that WP glow for an extra couple of days

Hey thanks. Realistically I wouldn't have made it without the recent double SC promo but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to hit 800 to retain over the next 12 months. After 60+ flights this year, mostly in Y, it's nice to finally get there.

This is so weird. I'm doing a family MEL-OOL flight with pooling on Boxing Day that will put me at 988 points as well! Co-incidence plus! Hopefully I can also get a bump. How long was it between your flight and the bump to Platinum?

How long was it between your flight and the bump to Platinum?

I logged in when I got home from the airport and the upgrade had been done. I've had activity post around mid-morning fairly regularly so I assume that is what happened this time. Maybe it was because I had a flight booked for the same day that would tip me over the line?
