Velocity Family Transfers Online Suspended

Does anyone have any tips as to what to do, when I explained it was urgent, the call centre hang up on me.

Nope, you wait until Monday, and pray that the seat you want is still there.

Either that, or find a friend/family member with sufficient points to book on your behalf.

Just thought I would mention that if you select the right option on the phone to say you want to make a booking and then ask for the redemptions team, they actually are available on the weekend. I did this and was able to get someone to help on Saturday and Sunday (first to remove family pooling, and then to transfer the points) without further issue.

I will note that the person didn't agree to assist at first, but when I mentioned the magic words "urgent redemption", after putting me on hold for a minute they came back and sorted it.

So despite three different call centre staff on Friday telling me it wasn't possible, it is, just in normal daytime hours when the redemptions team are on hand.

Yes but only recently, and they had so much fraud before they implemented it that this function has been indefinitely suspended. Had they implemented 2FA earlier it may have never become an issue.

Yes, that is true; you are absolutely correct. You will get no argument from me on that score.

Anyway, it is now good to know that 2FA has indeed been implemented. Something some may not have been aware of.

They now do have 2FA ... online transfers have not yet returned.

An eligible family member is a member of your immediate family, such as a spouse (including de facto partner), parent, step parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, brother, sister, child (including foster child and step child), grandchild, son, daughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

In these Terms, a Family Member is someone who is related to you in any of the following ways: husband, wife, domestic partner or de facto, mother or father (including in-law), son or daughter (including in-law), brother or sister (including in-law), great-grandparent, grandparent or grandchild, uncle or aunt, niece or nephew, first cousin, or any foster, step or adopted relationship in any of these categories. You may be required to provide evidence to our reasonable satisfaction that this person is related to you.

I'm guessing there is still no update on when online transfers will be available?

Contacted them and they had no idea if this feature is in the pipeline to be resumed within the near future. Guess for some reason they can't just add the 2FA check and flip the switch back on?
Or is there still a lot of fraud/account hacking/reinstatements etc going on the in the background that haven't been completely sorted out yet?

I heard my velocity points got taken for “lack of activity”….

What with fraud and the airline pocketing inactive accounts makes me wonder how these will survive

Is there really fraud happening? My account was flagged for sending points to my Brother in Law & had to go through the account suspension, investigation and then open to a new account.

Seems like maybe they over-corrected after the spate of 'hacking' and account sharing (brokerage? points selling?) and are now a bit timid even with 2FA in place?
How long did it take Aeroplan to resume their family pooling after 'abuse' issues? 18 months?
