Value thresholds

Hi All

First of all, please point me in the direction of any previous threads on this topic, as im sure it is one that has been discussed before.

There are a lot of factors that affect pricing, and there are likely to be interesting flight prices based on connections, routes, times etc etc. But when booking, to save myself angst and search time, I have a developed a general rule that if a medium haul flight costs $100 per hour, that it is a good value flight. For short hauls (eg domestic exl PER), I would go up to $120 an hour, long hauls (eg one stoppers like LAX, JNB, SCL) I would adust this down to around $80, and ultra long hauls (eg LHR, JFK), $60. NB these are the economy rates. I am not a person who books/pays for W, J or F on a regular basis to have thought about thresholds for these flights!! This is also for airlines worldwide, not just Aus flights.

Does anyeone else have these thresholds in mind when they book and if so, what are they (if you want to share)?

Also, does anyone have these sort of thresholds for ASA and Classic seats?

I don't think you can really put a "value" as such on flights, as it's very relative as to what you want to achieve during your trip.

With exception to points / SC runs, the value I would put on traveling from A to B is very dependent on what I hope to achieve once I arrive at B.
I would consider paying a lot to fly from A to B if there was value in me going to B. I probably wouldn't fly from A to B if there was nothing for me at B even if it was a good rate (excluding SC runs).

No real thresholds in mind. Normally, I have decided to go to B, and will just look for the best (however you want to define best) fare to get me there. If I can't find anything sensible, I may look to go somewhere else, but this is normally just a holiday timing issue!

If you travel a route regularly then after a while you start to understand how the airfares are priced and when is the best time to book.

For me I look to maximise SCs and points earned so I will choose a non-direct route.
