VA2 LAX-SYD, sewage problem force turnback

Flight VA2 turned around when liquid from the bathrooms was found in the aisle.

"The onboard toilets operate on a completely separate drainage system. As the issue was with the aircraft sink, and not the toilets, there was no incident of leaked human waste," Virgin said.


The plane was turned around for passenger comfort, so they did not "have to deal with that issue".
It landed in Los Angeles at 4.09am local time on Tuesday.

Sounds yucky and they did the only thing they could, turn back to departure point. Wouldn't have been pleasant but cough happens.

That article has undergone a lot of revisions in the past 45 minutes. An early iteration said that VA2 was operating from LAX to Christchurch when it turned back, and they've also backed away from the claim that solid human waste was running through the aisles.

I was on VA23 two weeks ago, and they had to lock off a few loos including at least one in the J cabin...

With most Pacific flights being pretty full, that is a recipe for a real problem. You always notice everyone wanting to use the loo's about 1 or 2 hours before landing, so the queues must get pretty long.
