Virgin Australia’s competition in support of Covid-19 vaccination has gone live. Top prize 1x 1 000 000 Velocity points, 250 other prizes -variously points bundles, flights, lounge memberships and PJs. Interestingly, unlike the equivalent QF promotion, proof of vaccination will only be required from winners, not all entrants

Thanks @flydoc ! I've just entered and with auto-fill it took me all but 2 seconds (1 for each dose?)

I find the cost of the prizes interesting such as the 1m points is worth $30,516.43 making the points worth ~3c per point (much harder to reach this price recently due to cheaper cost of business class).. The return business class vouchers are worth $1500 meaning they're saying the average business class ticket is $750 oneway and the economy prize averages at $250 one way (wonder if these can be used on the Christmas Island/Cocos Islands flights?). Finally the last 84 winners get a set of VA PJ's, they value them at $15 😂 .

Obviously no where near as generous as Qantas with their 1000 points or $20 vouchers but still great they're doing something.

Better than a kick in the teeth though :)

And better than Rexy who haven't even mandated their staff need to get vaccinated yet!

And better than our foul supermarket chains who unlike QF and VA, have made billions from us during and are sitting back doing absolutely nothing...

I'll be tossing my hat in the ring to see if I can score a prize from VA. Probably won't win, but what the heck...

As for the supermarkets, I've seen ads from Woolworths promoting vaccinations. Not sure what you expect them to do, they certainly don't want to be encouraging people to be shopping at the moment.

What can they do... Stop people who haven't been jabbed from entering the store? It'd be business suicide to touch the topic until we're much further along in the rollout.

VA and QF on the other hand have nothing to lose given they depend on open borders.

Yes it would be helpful, for all Australians who shop there, if Coles/Woolworths/et al would incentivise (carrot and stick) their frontline staff to get the jab. I believe that most checkout staff, being teenagers, don't have it.

Same here - I've thrown my hat into the ring as well. It will be a wait though to find out if I've won anything, with the competition not closing until 31 Dec.. But, it's something for nothing, so I'm not complaining

Interesting to see them valuing Velocity points at over 3 cents each when nominating prize values. That's... generous. ;)

So, if the competition closes on 31 December, why is the draw taking place on 9 December?

From the T&Cs:

C. Selecting Winners

12. The draw will be conducted on 9 December 2021 at 10:00am AEDT at Anisimoff Legal, Suite 5, Erina Plaza, 210 Central Coast Highway, Erina, NSW 2250. All decisions of the Promoter are final and no discussions or correspondence will be entered into by the Promoter. The Promoter may draw additional reserve entries and record them in order in case an invalid entry or ineligible Entrant is drawn.
13. The winner or winners (a Winner) will be notified in writing within two (2) business days of the draw/relevant draw and their names will be published on www.virginaustralia.com and www.velocityfrequentflyer.com on 13 December 2021.

What can they do? Seriously?

My god I could write a 20 page bullet point of ideas for them to drive vaccine take up in about 3 minutes. Use your imagination....
I won't post because totally off topic.

Good luck with your entry :) May you win second place, after me ;)

Qantas’ promotion requires the covid certificate to be upload. Virgin / Velocity aren’t so really anyone can enter.

From the T&Cs:
That's odd. On the webpage, the T&C's state:
The Promotion commences at 12:01 am AEST on 24 August 2021 and ends at 11:59 pm AEDT on 31 December 2021
There will be 251 Winners, who will be notified after 10:00am AEDT on 12 January 2022 by email. There are 251 Prizes to be won.

Something will happen I suppose.

Great promotion from VA, again.

Sure you can enter, but you won't get the prize so not much point if not vaccinated.

ah well, good on VA for coming along to the party.

Lot of prizes, although the Big prize similar IMO to QF, unlimited flights Aus wide or 1M points, much of sameness to me.

Hope the winner is from AFF, love to hear how big prize spent.

PS the draw before the competition closes, OH MY, anybody read these T&C's before publishing, very poor.
