Always swings and roundabouts on limits with insurance policies, but the equivalent Worldwide annual policy with TID is only $339 and gives you $12,000 coverage on your luggage/personal effects (versus $5k on this policy; won't go very far is you lose your carryon with a DSLR and laptop in it). I guess $115 for 4012 points isn't too bad. Better earn rate than flying.

With TID, they are very fair with their limits. Eg if you are going to go over the day limit, you email them and tell them and they raise a new policy to cover for you for the additional days.

I think it's great. Year long cover for most trips, and the ability to add on another week or two if you have a long trip.

I don't know if this VA policy would offer this.

I'm a fan of TID as a result of a 1st class flight home when I busted a knee, and from a cracked cheekbone. I'm not a fan of an American card's terms - the med centre were asked for documents to prove the whole trip was on their card. (The card has since changed the policy after I went to Fos. The new terms say that you're covered if you use "points + card for taxes" or the travel agent or small regional airline doesn't take that card).

I couldn't finf a multi trip offer: In the 'get a quote' panel I put in dates for 1 year and it came back as $1300. Hmm. I think their webpage needs a clearer button.

That was the same button I clicked, but it gave me three choices, one of which was a multi-trip annual policy. I also couldn't see if you could change the included $3k car excess component. I think there has been some discussion about the excess liability of some cars/accidents/firms being considerably higher than that.

You don't put dates spanning a year to get the annual policy. All trips within a 12 month period must be 30 days or less, so put your first trip dates in, selecting all zones that you will travel to within the next 12 months and you should then have the option to select Single or Multi trip. The 12 months will commence from your first date and cover all trips. Of course, you should read the PDS.

Australia Post offers multi-trip travel insurance with a choice of 30/60 days per trip. For 30 days per trip with $100 excess it's cheaper (~$275), although it's almost double that for 60 days per trip.

Have any of you used Australia Post insurance before? Any idea if it's easy to claim?

I was looking at the Virgin offer too and comparing it with TID. It's never apples for apples unfortunately and always depends on your circumstances.

The Virgin one for $445 also includes accompanying partner, which is what I want in my case. To get at least the same cover with TID I need to select cover for 2 adults (which then has the benefit of both being covered for individual travel as well which is good), for $419, or $394 with a widely available promo code.

TID's cover is better, it's $50 less then the Virgin offer an offers me an my partner individual travel cover as well, so I think I will go with TID regardless of the Velocity points.

Just note that this "Basic" plan for $278 has an extremely basic cover that you can't compare with the TID or Virgin cover. The "Comprehensive" plan is a better equivalent but is $392.

I saw the email but the quotes are not that great for a 50 year old.

- $524 multi trip worldwide

Car rental insurance excess cover is only $3000 as well.

QBE cover through travel insurance online is much cheaper.
