Unfortunately I don't think there will be any interline arrangement here.
ADL-MEL is just a stock standard domestic flight, and the flight from MEL to MAN is of course international, so all check-in procedures for that segment will occur at MEL. 2 hours is way too short to do all of this, so I'd heavily recommend changing the ADL-MEL segment to an earlier one (personally I'd leave 4 hours for this, but 3 hours should do, though it would be cutting it mightily fine), especially given you'll be waiting for the carousel to bring your bags out.
Good luck!

I would be very surprised if VA and SQ do not have an interline relationship for a DOM to INT transfer in MEL. I have done VA domestic to another airline's international flight in SYD and not had a problem. VA and SQ do have a close relationship, in fact part ownership of the former by the latter. I use the VA lounge with my SQ card and can easily transfer points in either direction.

I'd just call VA or SQ to check. I guess the only question would be whether the whole journey is on the same booking (PNR). Or if the domestic sector on a separate ticket to the long haul flight.

Domestic is on different PNR , will give VA a call tomorrow , cheers

If your flight is on time, then it should work, 45 mins to collect bags (lets assumed they're delayed) , 5 mins to walk to international terminal. That still leaves 25 mins until SQ check-in at MEL closes (T-45), and from T-90 onwards, there are usually no queues at check-in (and assuming you are on SQ 208 to SIN, which connects to MAN), there are also usually no queues at security/immigration by then as well.

But I wouldn't really want to do this connection on separate tickets, connecting from short to long haul, in case the ADL-MEL flight is delayed you won't be protected, and could miss the flight to SIN (which would be OK if your ticket was flexible and you were only going to SIN, with the 4-5 daily flights), but wouldn't be good with a connection to MAN, which only runs 5/week.

Thanks for the responses , i called 3 times today , all 3 call relayed they are a partner but will need to collect bags and checkin to Sq

Ask at ADL during check-in I have travelled ADL-MEL-SIN, ADL-SYD-SIN a number of times on seperate domestic and international PNRs and have done the international check in at ADL, had boarding passes for both flights issued etc. when travelling with either HLO or checked luggage. Never had a problem and bags were interlined.

Also if for some reason your bags are not interlined and provided your domestic flight does not suffer a major delay 2 hours is ample time to collect luggage from the VA carousel and check in with SQ in MEL.

My understanding is that this is the official line. Best to ask at the airport.

I'll be doing something similar too, July next year.
For the outgoing journey, MEL-SYD (VA domestic J), then SYD-SIN-(FRA)-JFK in (SQ international R).
For the incoming journey, LAX-SIN-SYD (SQ international J), then SYD-MEL (VA domestic J).
Award availability both from MEL and into MEL was pretty much non-existent, hence the international legs both being based out of SYD.
I'm wondering if, in both cases, I'd be able to get VA and SQ to interline, however I'm not holding my hopes high. I'll have to call up SQ/VA to "link" the PNRs (as they'll be separate of course), and see where this goes.

I asked to link the bookings and was told on the 3 calls made this wasnt an option

VA do not through-check to anything on a separate PNR. On the same PNR they will.

I am ADL this evening and although I am only flying domestic, at check if I could interline from VA to SQ for baggage on seperate PNRs. The answer was ‘yes’ provided it was on the same day. The agent indicated that need to make an edit to your booking, maybe this is just an ADL thing.

Thanks Matt , i rebooked the domestic leg to an earlier flight to make sure my trip goes smoothly
