Its unlikely there would be much US connections, any service traffic is already carried by a regular military flight.

Which brings the discussion back to "why"?

I suppose a lounge for 6 flights a week need only be open for less than 24 hours in a week so staffing levels shouldn't be too much of an issue, but I'm guessing this lounge won't be under the same regional model as OOL, MKY and CNS. Maybe an unstaffed fridge and coffee machine with access via door swipe like at the BNE VA coffee shop (if that's the right term).

I do agree this does sound interesting for the VA lounge network. Although the VA BNE coffee shop is more like a full lounge at the moment, perhaps it's a concept under trials and we may see it revert to something different once the main lounge renos are complete.

Another port which would be wise for VA to take ownership like they virtually have with OOL (and apart from NTL) is HTI. Although QF has supplemented its CNS-HTI with both SYD-HTI and now BNE-HTI, they are still only J out of SYD. With both Hayman and Qualia guests transiting through HTI, I'm guessing a J class directly out of MEL, SYD and BNE is a benefit to VA (it's certainly held good numbers on my reasonably recent flights) and a small lounge would definitely be a huge improvement over the basic grossly overcrowded terminal experience.

I'd like to see Newcastle. Surely that's the largest airport in Australia without a lounge? There will be plenty of room once the terminal expansion is complete.

agreed, Newcastle could benefit from a lounge ... I would also like to see one in Darwin ... nothing worse than that crowded terminal in the middle of summer (or winter for that matter as it is always hot)

Darwin will get one next year once the renos are finished.
