I missed out on Virgin Aus' status match program last year.

Is there any way of getting status matched on Virgin? I have QF Gold and would love to give the Virgin Aus FF program a go.

No offence, but I really hope not. I understand why Virgin did it, but there are too many who took up the offer without any intention of changing alligences.

I got a DJ status match in Feb this year by being persistent. So it's possible.

What did you do? I'm willing to be as persistent as you :p

I am guessing that part of it comes down to convincing Virgin that you are going to do a lot of travel with them and proving that you are a consistent frequent flyer. For instance, if you agree to move you next 12 planned flights from Qantas to Virgin then perhaps you might be able to convince a velocity supervisor to put a request through.

I sent them my January QF statement that showed 30k miles all in J/F. I don't think that was the clincher though as they had already said they would after a few persistent emails back and forth with "encouraging" phrases in it from me.

If you want to "give the Virgin Aus FF program a go", Velocity is free to join...

How much do you fly in general?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

OP - PMed you on the 14th. Doesn't look like you've been around since then. Posting here in case you have subscribed and this sends you a notification. Cheers.

I got mine after it closed, LTG shows some commitiment i suppose.

Nothing wrong with persistence.

Jack Lang did say 'always back self interest, its the only horse that keeps trying'.

I think you'll find that Chuksta "would love to give the Virgin Aus FF program a go" with the benefits of VFF Gold. If you have QFF Gold there is little incentive to switch airlines if you have to start all over again, or much greater incentive if you don't.

I'm sure he knows that VFF is free to join.

Anyone had any luck status matching from Qantas to VA lately?

I've tried the call centre, being told a stern 'no'. Tried email as well but have had no reply.

They don't want to status match unless you show committment.
You don't want to book flights unless you get the status match.
So we are stuck.

How much flexibility does Velocity staff have?
Has anyone been offered some alternative arrangement like 1 month status or something?

I wonder if the rolling 12 month assessment makes things difficult.

Agreed, a 'challenge' type offer would be a good idea, just makes it less appealing to switch when you have to start from scratch again!

I tired the status match from QF gold to VA Gold with both the rep here and email. I had bookings in the system from oct 23 till dec 12th that would surpass gold ( actually 680SC ) and was still told no. So BIS it was

The challenge is the best way to go, you only need 80 SC to qualify for 'real gold' then your not that inconvenienced since you will be doing a decent bit of flying. As you said you would earn 680 SC, so in that short period 100sc shy of requalifying.

The other half don't live to well on the aircraft. The QP is a bit better than the lounge though, I am on QF this week seeing what it's like and I already miss VA after 1 sector.

Given that VA would status match two flys crawling up the living room wall, on the basis that they're frequent flyers so some day they must want to fly VA, I don't believe they have suddenly found the dictionary meaning of the word "loyalty". I think a far more realistic reason is that VA are up to their collective necks in the transition to Sabre and don't want added complexities.

If however they found I'm not the only one moving travel elsewhere because of their insulting ignorance, then good! I hope it cost the ungrateful mongrels a ship load of cash. The evidence suggests otherwise though, so keep the chin up......no doubt they'll offer the world again to all but their most loyal flyers!

They wouldn't match my QFF status of platinum/lifetime gold. But gave me Gold to access their lounges. They don't have a 1st Lounge either.

The best way to attain "status" is to actually do the flights with said airline the same as myself and presumambly most on here did.

12 sectors Mel to Per (flexi) for example gets you close to gold on VA.

I used to walk past Q clup V lounge etc and never thought I would see inside any of them. Now I go to both!

Why do so many people expect something for nothing these days?

If you want to be gold with Velocity, book some flights. Simple as that.
