VA & SQ - I still don't know how, or if, it all works

The problem I had when booking my MEL-SIN-USM was the fare conditions on the SQ website would not tell me what fare bucket the ticket was on (always got "internal error 500"). SIN-USM is on Silk air which fair enough won't earn Velocity. I ended up calling SQ and they told me that I am H over and T coming back. 220USD per passenger to upgrade to flexi ticket. Is it worth it upgrading?? I am currently pooling to my fiancé who is 110 off silver. So the 120 SC's going over will get her to Silver - but the 120SC's we are missing on coming back worth the 440USD???

IMO - T,Q & V fare class should be at the discount ec earn rate to save the confusion...
