I was wandering through my local Woolies this afternoon and came across the following -

I have not seen these VA gift cards before (maybe they have been available on the East Coast). I assume they are similar to the JQ gift cards that have been around for a while.

T&C are fairly restrictive for normal use but hopefully Woolies/Coles will do a few 2000pt rebate deals in the future which will at least offset the CC surcharge etc. Amex Platinum Edge users can get 3 MR/$ as well.

You can get these through AGL Rewards (5% off). I assume that offer is available through other discount schemes?

Never understood the appeal of GC's to be honest. The receiver knows exactly how much you spent and now that money is locked into a set expenditure pattern devaluing it. Just give them the cash instead, it's more useful and costs the same. It would be a different story if you received more $$ value than you actually paid for. Kind of like a reward for pledging the money to that company. But as a straight up $$ substitute? Useless. Most GC's I've been given have expired unused.

I agree entirely.

The OPs last para actually explains this. Handy if you don't have a AmEx that earns 3ppd for VA spend.

For the possible interest of VA FF, Coles have a current catalogue special where you can buy a $50 or $100 VA GC and receive 2000 bonus FB points.

Not a bad earner when combined with an Amex Platinum Edge and the 15% bonus transfer offer...

Essentially $10 off your next flight. Do note you can only use one gift card per booking.

Coles have these on special this week with 2,000 Flybuys points for the $50 gift card. Not a bad discount.

$50 for 2000 flybuys sounds good!

Can you use multiple gift cards in the same transaction for VA bookings?

Bought the gift card for Virgin but at checkout my flybuys card didn't scan. Went back and got it rescanned so i'm hoping my points still go through despite the Ts and C's stating it had to be presented at purchase.

You got 2000 flybuys if you bought the $100 velocity gift cards. If you use Amex with local champion that’s an additional 400 velocity points. Pay flights by gift card ($100) and cc ($29) one way brisbane cairns using promo code then get additional 645 points and for gold 1129 points. That’s the equivalent of $25 in points at $0.01 per point.

Yes 1 gift card / voucher is the same thing when it comes to the transaction.

Note: when you use a gift card / voucher the second payment, if required to pay the full balance can only really be a credit OR debit card.

Just in case someone is searching for this, it is certainly possible to use more then one of the Virgin gift cards from Coles/Woolies
Just ring them on +61 7 3333 6600 and they will be able to put through multiple cards (I used 4) for a recent booking, only draw back was that they would not allow me to use a coupon code also, so keep this in mind.
I was happy to do this I had bought the virgin gift cards with some perfect gift cards I had purchased at Wow with the recent JB bonus cards. YMMV

Did VA charge any sort of booking fee for making/completing the booking offline?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
