VA Double Status Credit Offer

I've managed to change my booking to PER from April to March & have upgraded to J using points on the MEL - PER - MEL sectors.

I did warn the first agent on the SG line that it was a complicated booking. Before doing the re-booking & upgrading, I asked "Are you a rockstar when it comes to re-booking & upgrades?

Apart from not processing the return J upgrade (another phone call fixed that), job well done. I was offered a SYD - PER flight in lieu of MEL - PER but I said I wanted to go via MEL. Nothing was too difficult.

It was a little odd with the security question with the second agent, needing to confirm the name of my first girlfriend. I don't remember adding that!

Just booked flights for Mrs Sbv72 to take advantage of DSC offer which will get her to Platinum. She needed to fly to go to a conference but convinced her to book Flexis so no need for a SC run.

Noticed that price of Flexis for Townsville - Brisbane had increased from $305 to $319 from a few days ago. TRA01 code worked though to make up for that.

By the way, flew on "my" plane on the weekend: VH-SBV Qantas Link from Brisbane to Hervey Bay.

Still good availability in VA PE on HBA-MEL-BNE-CHC for 270 Scs @$700 most days, except WED. Ungodly arrival time into CHC, though. Bus. cabin, HBA-MEL-BNE. RTN is early start CHC, and over snack time. All 3 sectors on VA/VA NZ metal. R/T YLD- 540SCs for under $1,400 until DSC promo ends today. Maybe useful for Ms/Mr Companion Gold, via pooling, and any last minute lock-ins. cheers, PJ

I've noticed the flexis creeping up quite fast.

Around 12 months ago, MEL-PER flexis were $350 (a bargain, really). A few months later they were $400, then in August/September they were $450. Now, they're around $501.

It's still less than QF though (QF want $1199 for a 'Full Flexi' and $1299 for J, the Flexi Savers are more in line with VA though).

At nearly the eleventh hour booked Coolangatta - Canberra via Melbourne in J. Will get the status credits I need to reach gold and therefore upgrade some Abu Dhabi flexis to J for my family of 4. Yay!

I locked all mine in with 90 mins to spare last night . 320 SC , mostly on the OOL triangle , a trip to CNS and the FT QF AGM in BNE. Will requal GOLD again in April .

You won't believe the amount of procrastinating i did yesterday . there were so many variable that had to come into play i.e. free weekends ,availability , routes , timings , requal date , $$$, the list goes on... it was frustrating the hell out of me.

Edit : Ended up with 320 SC at around $3.27/ SC , not to bad .

Are you in OOL for long when you swing by?

I felt like running for platinum but instead went with an easy SG requal for myself and SWMBO with PER-SYD-CNS on flexis and a quick dash to SYD in May pushing us over the line nice and early.

I'd love another DSC offer to come by before booking tickets to the us for the years end

Yeah, I'd believe it! I spent most of yesterday morning juggling routes, prices, cost per SC only to decide we didn't really need to do anything, so that was that, nothing at all booked as I've got plat to end of March 2015 and +1 has plat to May 2014 and then apparently gold for a year after that. We could have gone for a plat renewal for me between March and June but I'm busy as it is. Status running is a tiresome chore at times and I may well requal regardless although a fair chunk of my flying is now on QF which is a a bit of a bugger as I cannot (actually don't want to) keep gold on both.

I was happy just pushing for SG requal , i had a brief think about Plat , but the $$$ just weren't there.

My layover time in OOL is

8FEB - 0730 - 10.55
8FEB - 16-15 - 19.05

8MAR - 13.20 - 17.05

All have fly ahead option if i choose , but happy to do a catch up in the lounge if you are around for any of them .

I think it was about 18-24 months between DSC Offers with VA this time . I think this was done to match QF's DSC Offer.

Without going back to check, about 18months seems to ring in my memory as well although VA went through a stage of offering the moon to anyone with a shiney card (except of course a VFF shiney card who's owners got offered jack)!

Until the DSC just finished, I'd been chasing SC since October 2012 & this was my first DSC offer. However, there was a period earlier in 2013 where you could get the full SC on flights purchased in full or part with points whereas normally, you'd only get the SC you paid cash for.

So there I was on Tuesday about to book the MEL-BNE, BNE-SYD and SYD-MEL trips I eed to take around Easter, when someone distracted me with stupid work stuff.....and I never got back to it :/
