VA Cancellations, Delays growing?

Who has the authority to book onto QF? And how is that actually done?

I assume someone not working for a subcontractor would make that call? Ie a VA Manager on the airline’s direct payroll that is higher up
In terms of QF, it's as simple as selling in the sector and reticketing in the new flight through reservations, otherwise their check-in system can do it as well. Obviously, there are guidelines and certain permissions some staff have.

For VA it also should be a simple as selling in the sector and reticketing it.

With CNS being shut down for maybe a few days hopefully the aircraft and staff can be utilised to minimise disruptions elsewhere in the network

Jetstar has a base in Cairns so unlikely will offer much extra assistance. Will likely make it harder for them to reinstate operations from that base if they have staff located in some cut off areas.

Do not argue with airline staff, they are upping the numbers of AFP "agents" in the airport.
What we might see as giving our point of view, it might be seen by the airline staff as something else;
Guess if my VAd flight MEL - ADL is cancelled, I will have to slum it either at the Ibis Budget, or in the terminal somwehere.
Flying in the next few days

Seemed like your mate had a few options provided by VA.
Your trying to say your mate wanted exactly what he wanted and was not happy with any other option.

It's generally not company policy to provide you with a ticket on another airline, yes it has and does happen, but very much so the exception rather than the rule.

It could've been worse arriving home in the arvo.

Airlines always have the ability to book on other airlines, if you think they should do this every time then thats your prerogative.

Aah for the “good ol’ days” when if you flight was cancelled and you had status AN airport staff would automatically book you on the first OA flight available and vice versa. As the mirrored scheduled flights nearly always left 5 mins apart it was rare your trip was derailed.

For colleagues on here, that have been stuck in MEL on your last flight of the day, if its fault of VAd, what has happened.
Did they provide the Ibis Budget, or were left to sort it out on your own, ie, find your own accommodation for the night, or did you just slum it in the T3 terminal.
Reason why I ask, is for Boxing Day, my 16.10 got moved to 17.10, and we keep hearing on the news, flights get cancelled now so often, in regards to ADL, arr esp.
Of course, its mainly CNS outbound, but of course, some planes might be stuck in CNS - (MEL) - ADL for eg.

We weren't at the airport yet when they cancelled, it was 2 hours prior to the flight.
We were able to select new flights in the app and the app also stated that accommodation was being organised and to 'sit tight'.
After about 15 mins of 'sitting tight' and no email arriving we called and they said we had to book our own and claim back (no $ budget given).
We booked back into the place we'd checked out of as our bags were still there.
Booked a room rate that included breakfast and will also claim $30 each for dinner (external), and an extra night of airport parking.
Haven't claimed yet so can't say whether it'll be an easy / quick process or not (suspecting not 😆).

Wow... how did you manage that with today's prices?
That was the amount that the website said would be included with the accomm (that they didn't organise!).

Actually, we went to a place in Chinatown called By Korea. The food was excellent and we had a Korean beer each too, all for $66 total.

I think I got reasonably lucky: VA booked me into the Mantra Melbourne Airport (5 min trip on the included shuttle bus), with a $30 meal voucher (just a few dollars short of covering a pizza with a glass of wine at the on-site restaurant).

I'm glad I wasn't told to book my own, as everything around the airport seemed to be north of $300, and I'd hate to try getting that amount reimbursed (when they consider a 'reasonable amount' to be $200 from what I've read...)

I will come back and report, if my seat on the 17.10 does get put on to the next and next and if cancelled.

So mine now is VA237, dep 17.20, next one is VA243, last flight, 19.20.

Turns out, lucky I had an indepth look at my VAd booking, have got several, my "flight change notification" is for the flight on 01/04/24.
So far, my Boxing Day (in South Aust its called Proclamation Day) one seems to be flying, at 16.20, but as we all know, they can cancel flight at short notice.

And I thought you were a tru blu SA Poochie.
Proclamation Day is December 28th and the services at Glenelg are still held on that day.
We no longer have a Public holiday for Proclamation Day and so Boxing Day has become the Public Holiday instead.

Errgghhh. I know it’s a busy travel day but by jebbuz this is annoying…

CBR-SYD (only because a month ago they cancelled the booked connection through MEL 😤). Link Saab340 for VA. 90 minutes late.
Therefore, missed connecting to PER.

Go to lounge having quickly looked up options. Traveling with family Scarlett.

Next flight SYD-PER in 50 minutes: full.
Flight in four hours: only one seat.
We’ve rebooked you on the flight in eight hours time. 😠

VA WP here, so I ask if we can get Econ X as had previously selected. No. You can have row 11. Which means I’ll have nearly five hours of my knees touching the seat in front. 😡

Can we go via MEL or ADL? After suspiciously short period of checking, nothing available. 😡

Check FR24 for our new flight: it’s already an hour late and has a SYD-CNS-SYD to fly before our trip over to PER. 🤬 Now showing 80 mins late.

Plan to get into PER 1430… best case scenario we might be in by midnight.

And just to twist the knife, VA emails about our onward connection from PER to Xmas Is with a check in reminder and I see our selected row 1 on the all Y VARA A320 shows allocated row 20 now. WTF. 🤯

VA WP really worth its weight in dog turds at the moment.

That's a very ordinary turn of events.

Some serious explaining and excuses are required by someone more than standard call centre operator..... Then offer some reasonable compensation.

Especially as WP inconvenienced whole family.

Virgin was the worst-performing airline in November for on-time arrivals, with only 54.2% on time. Qantas wasn't much better at 62%. Reflects the amount of issues reported in this thread in the last month.

The media swing is definitely turning to the positivities at Qantas and the negativity at Virgin Australia over the last few months.

For all the IPO commentators, with the economy and the currently VA issues, its a poor business state. I fail to see much traction happening in 2024.

Daughter flew from Townsville on Tuesday with Virgin. Took off late and missed connection to Adelaide. Probably already given to others waiting as they all thought they'd be ok as their following flight was already late.
Rebooked next morning and given hotel in Fortitude Valley and $28 meal voucher.
She was annoyed hotel meal started at $30 but I was pretty impressed.
People flying on to Newcastle had a two day wait.

Leading story on ABC News was VA2s cancellations being the highest and almost double Qantas…. OTD just 57%. Double ouch…

VA2 blamed shortage of staff. Why the shortage? (Was not answered 😂)
