Hey Guys,

Word is going around on a few other forums regarding the new name and branding of Virgin Blue.

It is likely to be named V Pacific.

This logo has been registered with the govt in NZ as per the above link. Very subtle difference in the logos, but one with the Australian southern cross and then with the NZ version.

EDIT: Could also be a merger with DJ and NZ maybe in the next few years?!

The domain www.vpacific.com.au has also been taken over by Virgin Blue.

Interesting - I think I recall seeing this logo around on pprune about 2 years ago. I reckon it was more of a protection of the V australia branding.

As for now I dont think it is relevant to the new management and their new brand unveiling.

Wouldn't be surprised if i'm wrong, but good to push the rumour along. And start a bit of conversation. :D

vpacific.com belongs to a cyber squatting company.

virginpacific.com and.au seem to be owned by VIRGIN and a coporate identity protection company.

virginaustralia.com is owned by Virgin

So again - I think it was more of a protection of the current v australia branding than any hint of what the new name/logo will be - especially given the company tasked with the rebrand were not hired until late 2010.

A search of the IPONZ site reveals that the logos were registered by a company called "VB Ventures Pty Ltd" whose office is apparently in the Fortitude Valley, which is just down the road from Virgins head office, however they have also registered several other trademarks including one called PACIFIC BLUE CHECK-MATE which has been applied for but which is under examination.don't know why Virgin would want to register the "PACIFIC BLUE CHECK MATE" name though.
Interesting.

Cheers

DJ used to have their HQ in Fortitude Valley. Their postal address has always been located at Spring Hill Post Boxes.

I doubt the Virgin name will disappear from the eventual name. There's a lot of strength in the brand and moving away from it would be a big risk in my opinion.
And it's a regular business practice to trademark and protect similar names. I recall when I worked for a law firm that acted for Qantas seeing paperwork for the registering of business names for Jetstar.

Not buying it - as others have said, I think it's more of a brand preservation thing. It would be interesting to see Virgin Blue assume the VAustralia identity (awesome livery and I think it appeals to the business audience moreso than VB does), however as elbarto says they've already got a very strong brand. I wonder how the 737 would look wearing VAustralia's colours? :p

As i said, it was just a copy and paste job, and was just a rumour! Just thought it would've been good to start discussing it a little more, that's it!!!

It's not a personal attack on you posting it to discuss; I'm discussing how I'm not buying the rumor :P :)

V Pacific does have a bit of a ring to it...

But having said that, I don't see JB moving the DJ Group of airlines away from the actual 'Virgin' group

As mentioned above the 'Virgin' brand does have a lot of strength behind it
