V Australia offers
limo service
V Australia will start offering chauffeured limousine service for top tier business flexi fare
paying passengers from today.
The door to door service will operate for departures and arrivals within a 60 kilometre
radius to Sydney, Brisbane and any other Australian capital city if passengers have a
connecting V Australia flight. In Los Angeles and San Francisco the service will
operate within a 50 mile radius.

That is probably a very narrow band of fliers but with some great publicity to hook people in. There are going to be a few disgruntled people who book with V Australia and find they aren't eligible...

Hmmm...so in other words, you need to be Velocity Gold for a start, plus you need to have purchased a full-fare Business ticket (i.e. the most expensive set of buckets).

I guess they needed something to make themselves a bit different. VS offer the same thing (chauffer service for Upper Class pax excluding those on award tix, however VS will allow you to book a chauffer service in these case for a nominal points fee).

Not really - can't you just add a line or so in your fare rules that says something like "Chauffer Service: Not offered/Yes"?

Just another freebie for the real "business" class traveller. They already are on an expense account, so dont suppose they really care. Its time other airlines besides Emirates offered enticements. Even when flying on Emirates to NZ on a basic Economy fare of $330 - it is possible to upgrade with points and get chauffeurs at all four transfers. You can't even check in on an international flight on line with Qantas - whats wrong with them. They don't even try to be competitive.

You are kidding are you not :?:

I work for the biggest company in the world and if anyone tried that they would be out on their ear. Expenses are very closely scrutinised and must fall within very specific guidelines. In fact the highest rate of dismissal in the company is from inappropriate use of the company Amex card.

Most of the large mining and oil/gas companies had international travel policies that specified Business as class of travel. However:
  • Fares are booked usually at corporate rate or cheapest Business available at the time. That doesn't guarantee that the Business booked was flexible.
  • Approvals for international travel were extremely difficult to obtain; more so now with the GFC.

That's fine, but I think you'll find most companies would have words with you if you tried to expense claim a Limo rather than using a Taxi.

Not if you told them that the Limo came with the fare where as the Taxi would set the company back another voucher or $60 - $100.

But if you so happen to get the fare without limo, then tough bikkies.

So what is the difference - taxi or limo you are still getting a free ride to the airport. You don't benefit personally by V use of limos for free - your company does.
