Using Lavatories in Flight not in your Cabin Class?

Re: WP treatment in Y

I actually think it is quite simple - if someone has a special need either permanent or temporary on an international flight ask the FA for permission to use the toilet in the higher class. If they are happy then I am happy. This meets the needs of people with issues while eliminating the w---ers.

Re: WP treatment in Y

It comes down to the enforcement from the FAs.

As it is, I doubt if there is any "open door" policy (pun intended) but it still happens.

Guess if the premium pax kicks up a stink (pun intended) then FAs would have to make a decision: open-door, cabin-specific +/- special exemptions.

Some of the discussion is like talking in parallel: the loo objectors talking about able bodied pax abusing the access while the loo grabbers (none professing to be "exempt" materials) talking about bladder cancer, Crohn's disease etc...

If you are that incontinent and could not manage a 3-5 min wait, then I'd suggest you would have a medical issue worthy of a discussion with the FAs.

The loo grabbers fail to see that we, the loo objectors, are not absolute hoggers of the lavs.

None has suggested an "electrical fence" as shown by your sensible comments.

Re: WP treatment in Y

I'm torn about this one. The last flight I've taken with VA there was ONE pax in J and economy was 90% full. That meant that one person had her own lav for the entire flight! I know she paid for it - maybe even with real money - but the pinko leftie socialist in me was really offended by the 1:1 ratio while down the back is was more like 95:1. (and no, I did not need the loo on that flight)

Re: WP treatment in Y

To those with pangs of decency, "do the right thing".

Look at what happened to Eastern Europe when "all for one, one for all" policy was in force !!

Don't begrudge those whose hard work, savings, planning etc.... allow them to travel in premium cabins.

FWIW, I have to declare that my last INT trip was in whY and the one before was in F - so I know both sides of the coin (or should that be "the loo"). And no, I did not transgress past the curtains despite my wP (yes, little "w" - not a typo).

If anything, the sight of the premium cabins with its extras incl. the better appointed loos (I hope) should inspire you to think of some positive way(s) to get there.

I don't feel offended reading about some bloke's house in Sydney with a "dozen loos" either.

Re: WP treatment in Y

Feed me high fructose corn syrup and there's an immediate evacuation required at the closest exit regardless of where that is :(

From what I read in this thread and my experience, the only time one would use a lav not in their class is:
- Urgent requirements
- Passengers thinking to themselves 'hey I'm a plat... first class check in...lounge...boarding...lavs aint too much to ask, right?'
- On 737's - "the cart" + "emergency"

Funny how you don't see it on a 767/a330 given the cabins are very much divided. Bring on the ropes I say!

Harsh. I know life is unfair. This just struck me as an enormous imbalance that IMO couldn't be justified. I don't defy the "rope", but I would have been less bothered by the imbalance if there'd been a few more people in J.

Re: WP treatment in Y

Really a lavatory is to be used as needed. My sister ate some chicken in QF lounge which gave her a tummy upset into the long haul flight. She had already pre booked her seating. In those circs i am sure everyonw would have been happier for her to use the nearest lavatory than have "an accident" that needed cleaning up. None of us knows when the dreaded lurgi will strike. We can surely be thoughtful of each other and considerate. JoyV

In a genuine 'emergency' I would have no issue (but probably wouldn't know it was such). If it involved me I'm going to empty in any lav I can reach, in preference to the seat pocket, or worse still, my strides. :o

Re: WP treatment in Y

Consideration for others is the key and as a passenger, and I am sure as a FA , I am happy for people to use toilets when they need them.
I was flying back on an Asian carrier and obviously a newbie was using the toilet and was very careful and took ages being traditionally hygenic.
A clue was that she did not know how to lock the door. Two people tried to enter as the door was showing green.
I was first in the queue and as she came out, I showed her how to lock the door so hope she had a more secure visit the next time.
I noticed she took a small plastic bottle into the loo and my guess is that she painstakingly filled this time after time to appropriately clean the toilet.

When I entered I found the seat was wet as was the floor. She had thoroughly rinsed all surfaces to make sure it was 100% clean. Very responsible. I advised the person after me that, as he was only wearing socks , he would have to go elsewhere. Interesting example of how people transfer learning from their home environment to be responsible in a new one.

Re: WP treatment in Y

The trouble with a wet toilet floor is that you never know what that liquid may be. ;)

cmon... has anyone seriously had an accident, as an adult, wetting their strides? like on a train to work? I've never seen it!

Re: WP treatment in Y

Exactly. No potties on the metro train network, usually.

Re: WP treatment in Y

Last SQ flight I was on the young woman in front of myself in J, on boarding and several times soon after, made repeated trips to the F toilet.

Each time she came back clearly carrying more out, than she went in with, with a little bag she had....and which she then emptied on her return

I am guessing she was cleaning out the amenities draws....

If a repeat offender, and by her manner I am pretty sure that she would have been, she may well have also been souveniring the perfume etc, if she had some form of cap etc.

She obviously had no common scents.

Not exactly what I was talking about. I can hold my bladder with the best of them, but some 'off' food in the lounge (or earlier) could precipitate a very nasty reaction virtually without warning - from either end.

How many people have a 12 hour commute to work on a train?

Oh, and we have a lot of wet tram seats and it's only 11 km end to end. It is so frequent for us that all our carriages on train and trams have biological spill kits.
