Apologies if this is the wrong section,

over the past few years, I have worked my butt off to accumulate points with no business spending,
all was going well until covid hit, I was spending points for premium flying for myself and family members, (they love me more now!)

due to virtually 2020 being written off for international and travel, and most likely 1st half 2021, as normally you book months in advance,

Im now faced with expiring points in late 2021 to 2022,
dont want to redeem for gift cards etc. want to use for premium flying,

expiring points in consideration are SQ, Emirates,
I already managed to redeem Virgin for gift cards/wine before they got shut down, which hurt

have you guys got any recommendations? even if I book multiple long haul for everyone, there is still heaps left over

thanks in advance!

Not sure what FF you are with, but for Qantas at least, you only need a single transaction and ALL your points are renewed. So if you have 500,000 points, coming up to expiry, all you need to do is earn or spend a tiny number of points and all the rest are kept current. So if you buy a single bottle of wine from Qantas wine and drink it yourself or give to someone for a gift, all your remaining points are then active again for another 18 months. Or if you earn a few points from Woolworths rewards or points earning credit card, again, all points stay active.

I'm not sure about the rules for Virgin though and suspect from your post that you might be talking about Virgin points, so I will leave to someone else to respond for that.

This doesn't work for the programs listed by the OP, i.e. Singapore Airlines and Emirates. Those miles expire after 3 years, no matter what.

(Yes, that is a terrible system and very user-unfriendly.)

Sq have extended mile expiry until next year and will mostl Lilkely renew if travel still suspended . Can also renew expiry with miles or $$

I had virgin velocity points, that were all converted via the velocity store recently,
my qantas points dont expire so im not worried at present

so now its just down to Singapore and emirates to consider:)

Sorry @travelnutjohn I did not properly read your original post where you clearly said you were looking at Singapore and Emirates. i got over - excited as I have just had a number of extended family have the "inactivity" issue arise on Qantas points, and so I jumped right in! I hope you get a good solution, and post about it so I can learn more.

I just received this in my inbox, I wonder if SG will scrap the expiry? this would solve the problem in a split second, or wishful thinking :)
