Next mnoth we will be returning to Oz via Adelaide after spending the previous 2+ weeks in Africa. Is there any point in trying to use Smart Gate on arrival? I assume as soon as we hit yes to being in Africa in the last 6 days, we will be directed to a border official for processing...is that correct? PS we do have Yellow Fever vaccines. ;)

If you've only been to South Africa, you will be fine.

We returned from Africa in August after visiting Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and SA. Used the smart gates without issue. If you've been in wildlife areas you do have to go through the red Customs lane where your shoes are checked (sort of!) We'd cleaned ours well before departure and they took our word for that. 🤔

Wìldlife areas ? I guess that going to see the Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda and the Serengeti in Tanzania meets that definition. :(

Update...saying Yes to Rwanda and Tanzania at Smart Gate meant a visit to àn immigration officer who scutinised our Yellow Fever vaccination books. :(
